you dont need the turntable mat.

its rubber, which increases friction between platter and record and your using the slipmat to try to reduce the same friction.

your slipmat will do just a good of a job as the turntable mat at keeping the dust out too

it is an easy mistake to make tho, took me about 5-6 months to work it out when i first got decks haha

when i first got my decks my train of thought was that the slipmat would stick to the platter whilst cueing, which would mean having a rubber mat on the platter wouldn't really make any difference.

I dont think thats a particularly silly way of thinking

Exclamation CAUTION

if you're pulling the record back at all you seriously need to take that rubber thingy off and use the disk shaped clear palstic thingys that come with the turntables (or make them out of waxpaper) or else slipcueing and the like will fsck up your direct drive mechanism

So Here's the Million dollar question:

Why make rubber turntable mats in the first place, if they are useless??

For playing records the old fashioned way. The very first turntables werent exactly used to scratch and mix with, so you needed the friction to keep the record in place.
