hey people, I'm sure the answer to my question is somewhere in these forums, but it would probably take a lot of time to find it in any of the ten thousand posts about Technics TT's

anyways I used to own a pair of Technics MK2 and I noticed that when reaching the 0 mark on the pitch the speed wobbled a lot right when the little light turns on to let you know that the pitch is at 0

Before the Techs I had a pair of Numark's and I don't recall them doing that

Any reason as to why that happens, and is there any Technics model that doesn't do that??

Don't know why, but it's been fixed in the models after the MK2.

Yea, sounds like its the quartz lock on the mk2. When the light comes on, the platter is controlled by the vibrations on the crystal. M3D, MK5 and M5G have had that removed and instead placed a button to enable disable quartz lock.

My MK2s don't wobble.

yep same with mine, i think they need to be recalibrated if they wobble...not sure to be exact on what the maintenance needs to be

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what he means by "wobble". That could be a bunch of problems, from a miscalibrated fader to a fader that needs to be replaced.

The one thing i would say that gives it away is when the light comes on it "wobbles" so a 80% chance in my opinion would be the quartz crystal itself...now how do you fix a crystal?

In that case I would disable the quartz lock, but that involves desoldering a resistor and two wires that connect the pcb and pitch fader. I wouldn't reccomend anyone do it themselves if they've never worked on electronics before.

The "problem" (ok, more annoyance) with the MK2's pitch slider has been well documented. When the pitch slider gets around the 0 mark, there are issues with the quartz lock causing a "double zero" effect. The M3D's fixed that by removing the "click" at 0 and replacing it with a button. The models above the M3D (MK5, M5G, etc) also all have this modification.

Is that what he means by "wobble" because then that's a very easy problem to fix.
