Mixing Breaks with Trance/House

Hey guys,

Lately I've been picking up some breaks records to spin in to my sets. Yet I've been having a bit of trouble getting them beat-matched and synced.

Are there any tricks or specific methods to mixing breaks with trance, and breaks with breaks?

Thanks in advance,

yeah im a Breakbeat DJ, and i also spinn Trance and Prog. House....

but with spinning Breaks they are build off of a 4/4 scale just like Trance and House... with the snare you have like
boooom chhh boomboom chhh,
and in trance and house you have
doom tick doom tick...

well match up the snare in the Breaks track to the snare in the Trance tracks because they are both 2 and 4 in the 4/4 scale...

if you need anymore explaining just ask ill be happy to go into farther detail about this...

hmm... so I use the snares instead of the bass-drum to beat match. But what if my trance track doesn't have a snare... and just bass drum and hi-hat?

do i match the snare with the hi-hat?

also the snare in the breaks is not fast enough to match with the hi-hat/snares of the trance track. so would it have to be 2 trance hi-hats in the time of one breaks snare?

like this?:

breaks track: snare ------- snare ------- snare ------- snare
trance track: hihat--hihat--hihat--hihat--hithat--hihat--hihat

Thanks for your help, cheers.

I mix breakbeats with 4/4 all the time. I guess it just takes practice.

All breaks tracks have their own rhythmic pattern of drums. I just have to listen to the breaks track for a few bars to memorize that pattern & then I'm able to beatmatch without a problem.

This way of mixing works everytime. Always looking for that *on-beat* "snare" might get you in trouble since many tracks are more complicated than that.

I hope you understand what I mean

Not really. Sure, there might be tons of stuff that's not on beat but there's always some element in there that stays in beat and it's usually the clap/snare. You just have to learn to block all the other elements out in your head and focus on that alone.
