An introduction to turntables & setting up
Hi All
A new article was just written by a local DJ called "What the hell is a turntable" and it explains what a TT is and how to set it up at first etc... It's well worth the read for beginners and those who are more advanced. If you have comments, stick them into this thread & I'll pass them onto the author.
The guide is all right, but I don't see why the author states that Ortofon cartridges would need more weight ... 2.5 - 3 g is usually more than enough especially for bedroom DJ use. Also, the height setting depends not only on the type of cartridge used but also on the thickness of the slipmat. When setting the height, the tip of the cartridge (where they stylus comes out) should be parallel with the record surface, NOT the tonearm. The difference between the 1200 and 1210 models is NOT the color (this is a common misconception) but the voltage switch 115v - 230v. Other than that, the article is quite good.
