wuttup j-spot!! i think really the question is how much are you going to travel with your records. i travel quite a bit with them. i flew to northern cali with them once, drove up there once. drive a case of records to and from LA (120 miles each way) most weekends when i go and drive them around san diego when doing some small parties and what not. i also forgot to mention that i drive like a maniac (i'm from LA i know) so i needed something that would provide protection to my precious vinyl. so i went with the hard case. i think soft cases are more convenient for carrying and provide more flexibility so you can stuff your headphones and whatnot in there but i went with the more practical choice. cheers!

Like Lost says, it depends on what sort of thing you do. I know a lot of DJs at uni who do small gigs at bars and small clubs, and travel mostly on foot and in taxis. For this, soft bags are much more convenient because you have a shoulder strap and carry handles, and are a hell of a lot more comfortable for carrying.

On the other hand, if you travel around the country a lot and you are throwing your records onto planes and in the luggage car of a train or something, then you'll probably want a hard case for the extra protection.

Some brands you should be looking at for soft bags are Substance and UDG. Substance make the lengendary Box-bag, with an inch and a half of foam padding all around the records. They are extremely well built and will last ages. UDG bags are also extrememly good, and they are used by many big name DJs who swear by them. My Substance box-bag cost me £55, and it's a 50 capacity one. The 100 capacity version costs I think £85. I don't know about the UDG bags, but I think they are more expensive.

For hard cases, look at the Pro-box. They are fantastic. They are so well built, and they look the dogs bollocks as well.

Looks very nice, but I'm afraid I can't comment on the quality as I've never seen one in the flesh, only a picture.

I would say this though: It's see through, right? So you can see the records that are in it. So where's the padded lining? If the box wasn't see through then there would be lining all over the inside of the box to protect your records. If they had this on a see-through box it would be a waste of time because you wouldn't be able to see through the padding. I would be a little bit concerned as to how much protection this box gives. OK, it looks nice, but then so do the pro-boxes that will protect your tunes a lot better.

I think you it is better to spend your money on a Hard-case! These are more protective! With a soft case, you will sometimes damage the vinyl or the covers! I bought a hard-case for about $150, 2 years ago and it still holds up. It is made for 80 records!
