Since birth i have only ever been able to hear about of my left ear. The 'Cochlea' in my right ear is fuckzored. Handed down by my mother who got it from her mother .. blah blah blah.

I'm not phased by it, If anything its great cause i can sleep on my good ear and sleep like a log even if i leave my desktop running which has 3 LED fans inside and sounds similar to a Boeing 737 taking off..

Anyways, My question is - Does anyone else have a similar problem? And do you have trouble/any special way you monitor tracks?

I obviously dont use split cue, so most of my mixing is technically done in headphones and by luck. I try to put my headphones on halfway so i can hear both the monitor and the headphones and its not impossible.. But it is tricky. My headphones are Pioneer HDJ1000's so there very big (Might order in some hd25s soon)

You can get one of those custom dildo/lollipop/candystick headphones

haha nah, my hdj1000's actually do the job pretty good. I just busted out a mix then (decided to adjust the speakers head height for a change) and that adjustment alongside my headphones being so damn comfortable and good helped the mix alot.

My question was more-so if i was the only one whose got one ear to DJ with. Technically speaking i should be getting deafer from being around sound so much but it hasnt affected me whatsoever (test have proven i have 'abnormally good hearing'. Although soon i will invest in some good quality ear plugs just incase..

I'm also a gamer so i have kinda 'trained' my ears to hear sound and the directions there coming from. I brought myself some 5.1 sorround speakers (everyone else gave me a 'wtf' face) but its good for me if you know what i mean

well i have hyper-acusis. it is a hyper sensitivity to loud noise. i cant set foot in a club without earplugs. fire bells and any loud noise is very painfull.

it started to become apparent when i started going clubbing. i remember going to clubs without hearing protection and my ears used to ring a lot - which i thought was normal. eventually i started wearing earplugs and now i doubt i would still have hearing after going to a club a whole night without protection.

my mother also passed her sensitive hearing down to me, but she was never subjected to the sound levels modern clubs can produce.

My right ear clicks every time i flex some kind of muscle inside of it. It does not happen when i try to move the outer ear. I have cleaned out all the wax i could, but no help. Also, same clicks are heard when i clap my hands in front of the ear. This may sound strange to most of you. I wonder if anyone else experienced something similar. Oh, and my mother experiences same thing in her right ear. I hope its not a precursor to something more serious.

Fl@k - you need a mixer that has a headphone crossfader. I mix on a DJM-707, and I do a partial split cue, with the headphone crossfader between 60~75%, deck B. It makes it much more clear and sharp.

I dont have any hearing issues, although its more relaxing and enjoyable because I dont need to blast the phones in a standard split cue fashion (typical in a club or house party situation).

Sounds good, I'm still waiting for the day where i can afford such a mixer but its coming.. Oh its coming.

Richg - Id never heard of this before you mentioned it, Does it affect you much in general? with all sorts of alarms etc going off all the time in life.

My hearing is strange too.

I think it comes from DJing too much. Basically if someone is speaking to me and there is a background noise I have trouble focusing 100% on what they are saying to me because I am also concentrating on the background noise. Makes Mrs. Nem very angry but what the hell can I do.

Probably comes from spliting and concentrating on different sounds sources is my guess. After 20 odd years the brain is just to used to that.

I think my hearing is also a little damaged from lound noise but it comes with the territory especially for older DJs pre earplug era.

However i do plan to pickup a pair of musician ear plugs now that gigs are starting to catch on and im not interested in losing the only ear i have left.

I've always thought I was the only with this problem. My GF use to be so annoyed of me everytime it happens. Its gotten so bad to the point that listening to non EDM tracks with vocals, I really don't hear the lyrics, just the music. With movies, I need subtitles on cause half the time I hear background noise versus the lines.
