The Korg Zero 4 Mixer

Hi all.

A mate of mine is looking to get a new mixer. He has two cdjs, and he also has a laptop with ableton live 6. I think he wants a mixer for use with the cdjs but also full control (or as much as possible) with Ableton. Obviously he needs one with midi capabilities and he's looking at the Korg Zero 4. Click here for details

He is a experienced DJ so is now looking to take the next step to utilize Ableton in his sets with doing live edits, droppping samples etc.

Does the Korg Zero 4 seem like a good purchase? Is it lacking anything important? Or or there any good alternatives to use? He's not the most technical minded when it comes to new gadgets so wants to be able to do everything with just the one unit.

I'm a producer myself so I can help him on the Ableton side but I know jack shit about DJ'ing and haven't even heard of the Korg Zero 4 until now.

Any advice

Re: The Korg Zero 4 Mixer

Still a new and unproven mixer... though that doesn't mean anything bad... just be prepared to be an early adopter.

The integrated sound card and MIDI control is nice, but certainly not 100% necessary for Ableton use. You can get the same functionality from a decent soundcard and a MIDI controller, and not get stuck with integrated devices in the future.

Based on it's mixer features ONLY, there are much better choices out there.

well for whatever time i have used it.. it seems to be like a solid piece of gear.. i honestly have no problems with it except the knobs being a bit too small, but the only reason i wanna sell it is to get me the Zero8!

If no one buys it, i might have to accept the fact that i will loose 15% of its value due to restocking fees (I have till Monday to return it)!!

i haven't used the midi functions, but i played around with the effects and they seemed pretty cool, i just wish they included a send/return ports to it.

I dont have a problem if a TA (outside of Montreal) wants to buy it off of me.

If anyone is interested, just PM me!

any questions? ill be glad to answer!
