Does it really matter if i go ahead and buy a belt drive, if i'm only going to be mixing, not scratching. I'm not exactly rich, and belt drives are alot cheaper. But if its just best to get direct drives, say so ;D
get Direct-drives, even if you haven't got much money. With belt-drives you will get problems with the belt. even the cheapest direct-drives are better than the best belt-drives.
So just get some more money en go for the DDs, it's worth it.

Belt drives will screw up your mixing. You can't beatmatch, you can't adjust small fluctuations in tempo, you can't do shit with 'em. Trust us and get directs!

Actually This Is Not Completely True. I Have A Friend That Bought Belt-Driven TTs About 3-4 Years Ago (I Can't Remember What Make They Are) And They F****** Rule. If I Put Every One Of You To Spin On Them Without Telling You They Are Belt-Driven You Would Think They Where Direct-Driven With Over 1kg/cm Of Torque. And The Pitch Is Just Fine, He Can Still Perform Incredible Mixes Even After 4 Years. So My Advise Is If You Find A VEry Good Belt-Driven TT And It's Cheap Then Go For It. But I Agree With The Guys That A Direct-Drive TT Will Last A Lot Longer And Would Make Your Life A Lot Easier. If Not In The Short Run, Then Definately In The Long Run.

i used to have belt driven decks.. they were that bad.. just no torque but they held a pitch pretty constant

i hate to sound like this... but ...
either get whatever you can afford, or get 1200's... Nothing has the specifications that 1200's have. .01% wow & flutter. very stable!
Direct drive tables are easier to deal with, and more stable. belt drives can be much less stable and can be hard to beatmatch on.
try to atleast find a decent deal on some direct drive tables. the most appealing cheap-o direct drive table that I know of is the stanton STR8-60, which is fairly cheap. but there are others.
all in all, if you get serious you'll want 1200's... hehe
