yo,

I just post a thread about Scratch - The Documentary.

Get the link about the movie there and check out some of the most talented turntablist ever. Seriously, most of the guys on the documentary have won competitions soo many times that they event organizers asked them to retired their titles and let others try. hahah

Q-bert won the DMC WORLD Turntablist Title three years straight (91-93). He was soo good at the time that they asked him and his crew (The Invisibl Scratch Pickles) to retired their titles, leaving with the fact that NO ONE would ever be able to beat them.

There are some pretty cool books that come with battle records, that teach you all the techniques of scratching. Flares, crab-walks, transforming, etc.

Check out the movie in you local town, and just be amazed!

Maybe KaZaA will have it....

Scratching is soooo cool. I feel sorry for their vinyls....

DJ Craze won the DMC the past three years I think. I know he won it 3 years in a row for sure.

I used to know of a good site (British based) about scratching, but I just can't remmeber. *slaps forehead* Damn, couldn't jump start my brain. If I remember, I'll post it. Too much partying this weekend. LOL

Man watching video of Q-bert is crazy. his hands move so fast that they are just a blur on the tables. Watching a DJ scratch is like the most entertaining thing ever. the crowd gets into it so much in smaller venues like clubs.

do you guys know who A-Trak is ? he was only 15 when he entered his first ever dj battle! That was the Canadian DMC Championships back in 1997, which he won!
He then joined the world famous crew The Invisble Skratch Piklz and a couple of months later he won the World DMC Championships in Italy as the youngest dj ever!
he later tried to defend his title in 1998, but was 3rd.. In the 1999 Championships he was 2nd in the Team Battle along with Craze and Infamous as The Allies

btw he went with me to college last year , the guy was kinda nerdy and i never saw him talk about his talent in turntablism , until i discovered 8 months ago he plays @ sona (a local after hour) and made a search on google to find how talented he is

scratching is wicked....but don't be fooled....to get that fast on the crossfader, and to get that coordination between your right and left hand takes aloooooot of practise. Like if you learnt how to beatmatch...imagine practising 20 times longer for some scratch skillz. Those top guys practise it like 3 hours every day

Scratchin is a must for every dj IMO. Hell I had this vid of Dj TOMY, He's a Hong Kong based Dj and man at some Regional DMC competition this guy stands up on the table, picks up the mixer turns it on it's side, picks up one of his decks and places it on it's side on the side of mixer and uses his left foot on the tone arm to do the scratch while his left hand holds the deck and his right hand moved the cross fader!!!!!!! OMG!!!!

I'm practising this scratch thing at the momment and I'm finding it's all about relaxing your arms and shoulders. The more relaxed you are the easier to get the scratch going. I'm finding getting the clicking of the fader to be difficult. If any of you are playstation friendly, you'll know about how sometimes your thumbs and fingers can get really sore and tender after frantic button pressing (ohh er missus) well I'm getting that with my thumb from trying to scratch.

Does any agree, scratchin is a fundamental dj skill, like beatmatching?

a little scratching is necessary...a la DJ jean

but to get down scratching on a higher level is much harder than getting beatmatching down...and Q-bert -ish scratching also isn't really a basic skill...especially not for the dance scene (trance, techno, club, house)

I'm trying to get some moves down too tho

but I don't really get the crabs down....like can't make it move the whole length of the cross
