Nah turntables are very solid devices, *especially* Technics.
"They're built like tanks" is the popular catchphrase here. Unless you do something drastic like drop them from your window, lol!!
Anyway I guess the only real thing you can screw up are your needles, but those are easily replaced and most people mess up their first pair anyway. The pitch slider is another possibility but again, those are easily replaced.
So nah, I wouldn't worry much about it. For your concern that you might "fuck up" your Technics, don't worry, that will be hard to do.

is there ANY way to break or spoil or mess up a turntable? cuz i dont know shit about how to use it or anything so..im afraid that if i get techs i might fuck em al up know what i mean?? |
well, like he said, you can't mess up a tech, or it's very difficult without explosives anyway. those numarks.. i'm not so sure of. but in any case they are nowhere near as good as technics.
yes technics are more money, but they are worth it. I have wanted to DJ for about 3 years now. I saved and saved, and finally, i got my techs. i got them because i knew they would last, and i know that is what they have at every rave, and what every self respecting DJ uses. I didn't want second rate tables. i was only satisfied with the best.
now, I wasn't sure i wanted to do this seriously either. but here is something that you may not have considered.
IF you decide DJing is not for you, you can always sell your technics. they have awesome resale value. i have frequently seen them go on ebay for more than what they are worth brand new!
go on ebay and watch some auctions for stanton, numark, and gemini tables, they get nowhere near as high.
now, if you get crappy decks, good luck trying to sell them. everybody wants to get techs, so they won't want your numarks. you might be able to sell them, but will probably take a big loss.
so if you don't want to be serious about it then techs are better, cause you can get all your money back, and maybe more.
on the other hand if you DO want to be serious, and you have second rate decks, you WILL want techs in a short while. you will have to save up all over again and get them, hopefully you'll be able to sell your numarks if this happens, but you might not.
and if you are serious about DJing, and you do get techs, then you can be satisfied you have the best, and go happily buying vinyl.
i wish you the best mate. you'll never know until you try though.

OK, I decided to help you out a bit more.
i looked around on ebay and at a well known online retailer.
technics 1200SL MK2 for $379 a damn good deal http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl...002061621592330
so, that's 2 for $758
contrast that with this auction on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=1359529537
the same thing, is already up to $760, 2 bucks more than what you would pay for them brand new. there is a little under 2 days left, i wouldn't be surprised to see this auction get up to $1000 in that time.
then, you have your numark package which is $700, for the 2 tables, mixer, speakers and mic. the speakers and mic are shit, you don't need them anyway. the mixer is ok, but you'd want to get a new one soon.
http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl...002061621592330
here is the same thing on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&item=885110960
it's at $495 right now, 16 hours left.
no bids yet, compared to the technics auction with 13 bids already.
whew that took a long time!
I hope i have convinced you and anyone else to get technics. you won't be sorry.

Anyway as for the mixer I'm unfamiliar with it. Here's a pic I found:

Hopefully someone can speak up that's familiar with this mixer.

That would be me then
I have this mixer, and for someone just starting out like yourself you could do a lot worse. It has all the features you need: 3 band eq, crossfader curve adjustment, gains, switchable phono/line inputs etc. The drawback of it is that its a cheap mixer, and as such won't last that long. I've had mine since about October and the crossfader is already bleeding, and I use the line faders for mixing! But seriously, for it's price you wont find anything better. If you want better quality stuff you have to pay for it.
