A turntable question

I have a question,
after replacing the cartriges on my decks, Ive noticed that when I start songs, and wind the vinyl back and forth in order to match the beats, after 2-3 winds, the needle goes a little back, to the point where i lose my starting beat. Does anyone know how to fix this, is this the result of a weight imbalance?
Note: on very light records this does not happen, but on all others this does. This should not occur, because with my old cartriges which were shit, this never happened?

You need to re-balance your tone arm now that you have different wieght carts on it.

The carts should be alright they are stanton 500s, which were recommended by a few people.
About rebalancing, I tried it and still same result, maybe im rebalancing wrong. Can someone tell me how they rebalance theirs?

ive always though balancing is very simple thing...

just move the position of the weight until the tonearm "free-floats" in the center - ie it should hover horizontal (parallel) with the plater... set the dial on the weight to zero at this position (WITHOUT moving the weigh, so the zero indication the dial indicates the position the tonearm free-floats horizontal with the platter) then turn the weight so the dial indicates the proper tracking force for your cartridge.

also, if there is an extra weight for the headshell, install it... this helped mine be more stable... and if you install the extra weight on the headshell, also install the auxilaury weight on the rear of the tonearm (i'm assuming your using 1200's) to balance it out.

also, make sure the tonearm height is set so the arm is level with the platter when the needle is on the record. set anti-skating to zero.

this is all i've ever done to balance my decks... i run M44G's @ 2.25 grams and i can backcue hard and fast, and scratch with no needle jumping...
