Yes, it is perfectly normal for mixers to get hot. They are really nothing more than a big resistor and in order to kill the sounds, you have to stop the electricity, hence the generation of heat. Just make sure that you keep it well ventilated so that it doesn't overheat! Some times it can even get too hot to touch for long, but don't worry, you're not quite on the brink of overheating. I wouldn't use the mixer to that point unless I had too though.
