eq tricks

hey i was hoping we could discuss some eq methods mainly before mixing in something ? help me out here guys hehe

as far as tricks go if you have a breakdown with really mid/high (which ones dont :/) dependant strings like carrera 2 for example i find i move my treble/mid in time with the melody, it really emphises it and makes it sound very cool

A couple things you can do just with the bass eq is either take the bass away or add double the bass to the track. Right before the buildup ends and the chorus explodes, kill the bass for 2 or 4 beats and it can sound increadible. Not only that, but during the chorus, try increasing the bass on beats 3 and 4 of your 4/4 beat. For the highs/mids I usually use the wah/filter function on my cd decks or mixer to create an effect using them.

There are so many things you can do with EQ's.

Playing with them is one of the things I do when I'm not in a mix.

You can cut out the high/mid/bass (whatever you like), add more of them, or cut/add high/mid/bass in sync with the music...

I always try new thing with my EQ's, sometimes they sound great, sometimes it's just fucked up...

Experimenting is the keyword for me.

There's no hard and fast rules. But when you're listening to the two songs in your headphones, always think whether or not you would be able to dance to the two tunes at once. If not, you need to cut something out of one of the songs. Usually it's the bass or mid range. Hope that helps.

killing the bass for 2 or 4 beats rocks, so does turing up the treble when the tune kicks back in after a breakdown

i just fuck around and see what happens
