Query on second hand technics

I have the chance to buy some second hand technics 1210s mk II's and also a mixer, for the bargain price of £400. However, I dont want to buy the decks if they are not fuctioning 100% I once read that technis will last forever, is this true? I have the chance to test them b4 i buy them (at work on a club system woo ) so should I look out for anything when using them that shows they are not gonna last?? Thanks for your help

Technics are practically indestructable.

There is no better deck to buy second hand. Trust me

make sure they pack it well... and if possible offer extra money to have a professional pack and ship it with insurance so that each one of you are not liable if something breaks

mine were second hand. one broke on the way, but the other one and the following one i got are fine. techs really can take a beating...unless the shipping company dropps it out of a plane and runs over it with the delivery truck

Technics are the best to buy second hand, but always stay clear if they have been used in a club!! They're are usally run down and not looked afater properly.

Is this source that you are purchasing the decks from local?

Either way, go to your pro audio store, take a look at a new one. Take off the platter, observe.
If the person is local, check out the deck for yourself. Look at the exterior, take out the platter. Obviously, if the thing looks shitty, it may have not been taken care of properly... but it may still work perfectly (never judge a book by its cover)
Turn on the deck, make sure it starts amd stops effectively... compare it with the one from the store. Check out the tonearm, make sure its not fucked.
If the person or store is not local, make sure you get pics of it... make sure the pics sent to you are legit and not some pics from the internet. Make sure they give you a receipt stating the condition of the decks "fully function, some cosmetical damages" "broken tonearm" etc,...
Thats all i can think of.
One more thing, if the person is local, try to find a person who knows a bit about the 1200 to come with you to check it out

Despite whatever kind of good condition they appear to be in upon inspection, I still think it would be a good idea to get them properly serviced if you buy them. That way, everything can be cleaned out, lubed up and tweaked for maximum performance. I may cost you a bit extra, but it will be worth while in the long run.

I got a mate by my house who repairs the whole deck for 35 bucks, I mean cleans, fixes anything, replaces the rca wires with monster cables. The guy is a true badass, he can make any turntable run better than new . Find yourself one of those people :P
