I gotta say the inverse for me , i can't fix on my mind a specific melody , but when it comes to the drums , it's always ok

Drums and percussion come pretty easy for me.
As far as the melody.....sometimes I'll have a melody already in my head when I start to write something but most of the time, the melody takes shape as I'm working on a song. I tend to find myself starting with either a drum / percussion track or a bass line and then build off of that.
Not always...but most of the time.

I'm just like you. Drums are the hardest part.

After looking at this question again....the other hardest thing for me is not having that "creative flow" disrupted by something or someone. Almost never fails, though. If it's not the phone ringing...it's someone knockin on the door....or both at the same time.

What I do is have a small tape recorder with me and hum melodies and stuff in , that way I will never for get it . It takes about 2-4 months for me to finish a song and for the first month I just use my tape recorder and think about what type of song I want and plan it out and go over every thing I want to do . It makes a big difference going from when I first started of 5 hours to make a song to 4 months .

I say if you want to make good epic/melodic/uplifting Trance..the hardest part is the Basslines.... which you cant always really hear but they do so much for the song!!

thats why Ferry is considered a ACE in Producing..cuz he has signature Basslines that just kick major ass!

Wink

Sometimes, another thing that can be difficult is knowing when enough is enough. It often gets easy to get carried away when writing and ending up with something that has too much in it.So, keeping myself from overdoing it can be a challenge.

Thats a good point , also knowing when enough is a enough in a certain part in a song can make or break it . My point is don`t just ram everything in the hole song , make it have purpose .
