So I took your advice...

So, it's gotten beyond the initial "OMG I DIE!!!11 I WANT TO LIEK, BE A DJ FUR REALZ!" stage that most people hit. I've gotten 400+ dollars that I will soon be spending on a Stanton ST-100 and either a Behringer VMX-200, or the VMX-300. I still need to decide on that. Any input on those decisions is still welcome.

My main question, is whether I should order from something like DJmart, or whether I should just get the stuff on eBay. I've been thinking a store sort of place, just because I have a better idea of what I'm getting.

To go farther, what store would you suggest I order from, if I go that route?

Danke.

Edit: Check down on thread.

don't want to put you down or anything, but 400$ won't make you a DJ. It's possible to buy some cheap equipment and learn to mix, but where is your vinyl collection? Most people underestimate the cost of regularily buying records.
How much does your average import-vinyl cost in the US? 8$? 10$?
Now I wouldn't even THINK of spinning anywhere before you have 150 vinyls. If you ever get so far that you can play every week or even twice a month, you'll need at least another 10 new records per month, 20 to be more realistic. so that's another 2500$ per year.
Are you really up for that?
Just trying to make you see what it will be like after you got your tables. I have collected over 2500 vinyls in 10 years and don't want to miss any of them, but I feel pretty bad when thinking about all the money that went there...

If I put forth the feel that I think I'm going to spend this money and suddenly be a master of the vinyl overnight, thats not what I mean. With this much money, I'm not even expecting to get two turntables. I've priced stuff and I know how expensive of a hoppy it is. And I don't trule expect it to ever get beyond being a hobby. I'm hoping to get one deck and the mixer with the money I have. I have some shitty headphones that I can make do with for a while. I can afford enough vinyl to learn on. Most decks come with slipmats, so thats covered, and if they don't they aren't too expensive. Maybe the other deck for Christmas.

Thanks for the input though. I'd probably disillusion myself if no one told me its not going to happen.

i'd just like to add that i hope you realize you can't do anything with only one deck, besides simply play the songs one by one.

also i dont' believe anyone is truly a dj until they can beatmatch and mix, which takes months of hard work! no amount of money can train your ears to beatmatch, only months of practice...

lol... song comes to an end, 'DJ' just slams the fader across.

I've been dragged into a few "top 40's" clubs and it always cracks me up when you hear/see the transitions. It's almost criminal how bad they really are and they get paid for it . What's worse is many of them actually consider themselves proper dj's.

Anyone can press play on a cd player and slide a fader across at the end of each song.

Alright, after reading all your advice and so forth, I've been thinking that instead of the ST-100, I might just go with a pair of STR8-30B's. They still seem like pretty solid decks, and still look almost as pretty, for half the cost. That would allow me to get the second table, and the mixer.

seriously man, if you wanna be serious... get a pair of technics or even the vestax pdx line of TTs. if you're gonna be mixing and not scratching, I'd personally advise to get dex with S-shaped arms, not straights. you need lots of torque and very good pitch-accuracy to do things easily and properly.

I have 2 technics 1210M5G and they are amazing. I brought my buddy over and he brought his stanton str8-50 (yes i know it's an old model, but it's all he could get for the time being), which had no torque and was belt-driven. I couldn't stand the lack of torque while cueing up a record, and the wavering pitch was even more annoying. the difference between even a middle-class-quality TT and a high-class-quality TT is like night and day.

Do what I did, you cant go wrong:

I saved for a pair of Technics SL-1210 mkII's and bought them on ebay - the pair cost me $560.
