Angry Why is vinyl so expensive???

Here in the US you can buy a mixed Trance CD for about $17, with an average of 12 different songs.

So why do you have to pay $12 for three versions of the SAME song, when you buy vinyl?? Why is vinyl so expensive -- what's the rationale?

acually the thing is why are cds so damn much. CDs cost about 50 cents and shit. Ok you can't compare prices with the size but look at a cd compared to a record, the size difference is big right? I dont have any vinyl but look at it. Cds are soofaster and easier to make and produce but vinyls are probaly slower, but more higher quality. If you're the average listener and dont want to mix then cds are ok but if you're a DJ would you really want to mix with cds? i mean some do but yeah, its probaly easier with vinyl because you are controlling everything by hand. so yeah i'm stupid.

but let me ask you this.

when you buy a cd, usually, you only like a few of the songs.
so its not like your getting 12 great songs for 20$

atleast with vinyll u know what ur getting urself into.
cuz at a good store u can sample.

dazzed, although I see what you're saying I still don't understand why you have to shell out SO much more for basically a single song. And in terms of quality, CD quality is excellent and digital. We're not talking about some reduced-quality MP3's here.

Don't quote me on this...

I always vinyl cost so much because you were paying for the right to play it to a public audience @ a club/rave.

I'm probably wrong though.

You're wrong because if you want to do that, you still have to license the songs by paying an additional fee to the record company.

They don't always cost more than CD singles. It is only new/import releases that are more expensive.
Here in the UK, a vinyl on import from say, Holland or Germany will cost about £6.50. Compare that to the same CD - Oh no, sorry, you can't, because it isn't available on a CD. And If it was, it would be just as expensive because it is on import.
However, if the song gets a full UK release, then it costs the same as the equivalent CD single.
Try it out: go to www.juno.co.uk and have a look at the prices. If there is the name of a country after the name of the label, that means it is an import and will be more expensive, around £6.50 for Europe to about £8 for America. If it doesn't say a country, or says UK, it will be cheaper, around £4.
Try it out at www.hmv.co.uk as well, where you will be able to see that songs with a full UK release cost the same whether on vinyl or CD.

think a little...

Can`t you get it?

Cd`s made of silycon... which is made out from sand...
sand is the most common source on earth... (it`s full of sand)

On the other hand... vinyl is made out from chrome most of
the time, and it`s a lot more expensive than two
ounces of sand

recorder cost about 2000$

Errrmm... No, I don't think so...
Chrome (short for chromium) is a metal. It's what you plate bumpers with (fenders for you Yanks!).

Vinyl is a plastic, which is obtained by refining crude oil and creating polymers. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't say it!
