ok so i'm about to buy my gear but it has come down to a few items.


I'm looking at all of these things and I don't know which setup to get!

It will be my first setup so I'm leaning towards..

Numark TT500's and Numark dxm-06 mixer



but I also really want..

Technics S1200-MKIIs with a Vestax PCV-275 mixer

and

Technics MK5s with a technics SH-MZ1200 mixer



ahh someone help, perhaps explain why i should get one of the setups over the other two for a beginner.

The numark setup is kind of bleh...

The techs 1200 mkII and the vestax pcv is the setup that you should get.

The all Technics brand setup is bleh again...overpriced, and technics mixers arent very good at all.

So yeah Technics S1200-MKIIs with a Vestax PCV-275 mixer is an ideal setup for a begginer.

I reccomend you buy shite equipment to start out with. I've heard the tall tale story of people buying all the phatest latest gear only to just dump it all within a year. So start out with something a bit modest. Just make sure its direct drive and all that. You don't need all that much torque in the biggining as you'll be learning to mix rather than doing tricks which would require precise queing. Once you feel that your current equipment is limiting your ability as a dj you should then look at buying some of the better shit on the market.

I started out on my buddies belt driven stantons DJ in a box kit. That shit was rough...If you know anything about belt drven tables it can't keep a beat. But I learned how to figure out if a particular track had sped up or slowed down all of a sudden...rather than simply the beat is off but I don't know which direction I need to make the adjustment.

Cuz really in djing you come across all sorts of shit equipment you end up having to spin on and if you've spun on the worst while all the other DJ's are having a caniption fit and trainwrecking you'll be that one guy who's still able to spin a bangin set.

Example I spun at a club and they were technics alright but they the motor's were so burnt out almost breathing on them would probably slow down the platter. Another time I spun in at this outdoor party but the generator was shit so everytime it fluctuated so did all the equipment.

I'm not saying buy belt driven crap. Just buy something direct drive that doesn't feel too too cheap, just keep it simple. Later buy yourself a phatty PIoneer CDJ with Technics, and a Pioneer mixer and a monitor etc. etc.

bloody hell, someone that has the same opinion as me!!!

i always think you are best shelling out on a shit hot mixer rather than dogs bollocks turntables at first, for the reasons that beat_chemist stated in his post.

as someone who has been djing for a few years now, out of the setup's that you have posted, i would go for the 1200's and the pcv 275 (its a beautiful bit of kit!).

dont be hung up on techincs though, there are better and cheaper decks out there.

get the techs. you will never have to buy another deck again. sure there are cheaper decks out there, but even the high end numarks and such just dont feel like a quality deck. the platters on them seem to be more sensitive even though they are supposed to have more torque. i have never found another deck that gives you the control or feel of a 1200. when and if you decide to sell your gear, the techs will have twice the resale value as anything else.

as for the mixer, that pcv-275 is a great one. if you want you can skimp on the mixer, because if you do stick with it, you will probably eventually upgrade to a DJM, A&H, Rane or something along those lines. but the best advice i can give you is to buy techs.

when i got my first setup a little over a year ago, i bought 2 1200m3d and a crappy little stanton mixer. i didnt have a ton of cash and actually bought my decks on layaway (yes i know, im ghetto). but i love my decks, and i wouldnt trade them for anything.

All the same turntable (although the st-150 has key correction and a digital output, but who needs that anyway). I have the Akiyama Acura turntables for a year now and I haven't had any problems with 'em at all. Technics users who have tried these babies were stunned.

vero: i don't know which planet you tried these other decks on, but gravity must have been wrong have you ever tried stopping the platter on one of these decks? the massive torque is definitely there, and makes the 1200's feel like belt-driven decks.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference. If you can test out different types of decks in a music store or somewhere else it would be ideal. Don't believe the hype of the Technics geeks tho, there are other options out there.

the numark mixer, a quick quesiton if you could spare the moment. does it have digital output? or just analog? and if you record analog what sound card do you have and do you hear distortion? there's always some type of distortion with analog, right?
