Pitch on the Mk5Gs vs other 1200 models

i think i read somewhere that the pitch on the Gs is digital. my question is would i notice any difference using that compared to say the mk2s or mk5s?

at the minute i have ttx1s but im selling them to buy mk5Gs simply because i wanna get used to the feel of technics b4 DJin. IMHO the ttx1 is a better deck but its crazy not owning the industry standards if you wanna DJ! Anyways.. enuff rambling

there is no difference that i can tell of between the pitch control on a mk5 and a m5g, apart from the little button that wacks it up to +/-16%

ok let me get this straight.

I myself have tt500 decks which is probably the same thing as the ttx.
If I went over to a friend's house and say span a set for the first time on the mk2's it would be harder? cause i'm not used to the decks?

Could someone explain this.

its to do with the torque and the weighting of the turntable. some decks have very little torque (gemini xl's). because they have less torque they behave differently when you rest your finger on the platter or queue off the record. decks with low torque tend not to queue off at the correct speed instantly. they kind of accelerate up. if you get used to the way low torque decks behave, moving onto something like 1200s is kind of weird cuz those decks are powerful - really high torque. i noticed that i couldnt rest my finger on the platter to slow it down like i could on geminis, it had practically no effect on 1200s. i had to press/touch on the platter till there was an audible dip in pitch to get any substantial change. likewise speeding it up was different to how i would on geminis. i still havent gotten the hang of 1200s cuz i dont get to play on them with any frequency. im just used to the weighting of low torque decks. once you feel 1200s out for yourself and get used to how they behave ive heard they are really good cuz they stay on the correct speed and when you queue the record off it goes straight in, it doesnt accelerate up.

for me it was quite the opposite. using 1210s for the first time they felt like belt drives because i was so used to the torque on the TTX1s (3.8 compard to 1.5 on the techs)

i found it hard to do corrections with my hands because i wuld either put too much weight on the platter causing it stop or push the platter to hard causing the beats to go even more outta sync. im gonna be startin a weekly warmup gig in a pretty good club soon. got the job by throwin in a mix CD (made with TTX1s.) I can still mix compitantly on Techs but im not as relaxed as i was on my own. only solution was to get confident at using technics. so i bought a pair.. pretty expensive confidence building exercise!

oh btw this is RIP_Technics
