Hello! Mixer....

Hi all,
Got my Technics 1210 ard 1/2 year ago and i must admit they rock, thanks to all those who recommended n guided me [esp, Skywarp]. Now I m planning to get me a mixer to mix between vinyl and CD 1st. The second TT will come later due to budget constraints. Wat kind of mixers do u all recommend and wat should I look out for? New to this...Sorry...

Saw this Vestex one [think it was pmc05Pro], looks cool. How is it?

Thanks all in advance for ur opinions...

you will need at least a 3 channel mixer.
Stanton RM-3 seems like a nice one.
Anything by Vestax, Pioneer, Rane, Denon etc.

Just stay away from Gemini,Pyle Pro,GLI Pro, Numark(poor sound quality in these, i found out the hard way)
If your loaded then go out and get an Allen & Heath Xone32 or 62, the sound quality is awesome. Last mixer you'll ever buy.

I have the Stanton RM-3 at the mo. its very nice, x-fader is slightly light and cuts out quickly but has beautiful kills and nice knobs (i know how gay that sounds, but im trying to help), ive got that oon loan till i get the vestax pcv-275, thats even better so is the vestax pcv-175, i recommend all of those mixers. if you have the dosh get yourself an allen and heath though

so tell me why u need a 3 channel mixer? A 2 channel will do as long as u can swich between phono and line, and in many 3 channel mixers, the third channel is not on the X fader, just a volume.

Im betting your current mixer will do, just flip a switch.

between the two I would suggest the vestax, but on the stanton the kills are much more handy i think, right next to the x-fader. ive made some tapes with the rm-3 and the sound quality is good, but the levels seem to be all wrong no matter what i do? probably just me though . the 275 is better than the 175, sound quality, build, accuracy, etc.
When you go to get a mixer, ask to try it out! stand both sides of the speakers, use all channels and dials and kills, with both cd and vinyl if you can seeing as you intend to use both. also bring your headphones and listen through them, also see whether you like the feel of the buttons, x-fader on a model better.
j_spot is right you don't need a 3 channel mixer, but it can be easier, and i dont use the x-fader much, i generally just use the volume and gains, i feel it is much more accurate. but at the end of the day it is your personal preference.
always ask what the guy in the shop says, most of the time he will help you very well, but always say you have a lower budget than you really do have as some guys will try to make you spend more.
i suggest you have a look at http://www.htfr.com as it shows just about every mixer, all in british pounds, but it'll give you an idea, and feel free to ask me more, i will do my best to help as other guys and galls have done for me.

Well, the reason i suggested the 3 channel mixer is because someday you might want the option to mix live w/ 3 sources at once. Say, mixing w/ the two tables while sampling from the CD player or something.
A 3 channel mixer usually isnt too much more money then a two channel mixer any how.
Just something to keep in mind. Always be open to more options.

Hi,
shouts to all who helped... Really appreciate it a great deal.
And Luke, I haf decided to go wif the RM-3 coz they r more affordable and i like the larger kill switches. Followed ur advice and dropped by one of the shops, they recommend that too. Anyways, the VEstax 175 is not here yet; due to reach our shores next year. Well, since I m a newbie in tis area, might as well get something affordable to "train" on 1st, eh? Wat do u think?

Cheers!
