has anyone done their own faceplate for their mixer? i'm thinking of doing one for my future mixer, but i have no idea how to do it really.

i guess i'd have to get some aluminium plate and drill holes and whatnot on it. i'm just wondering if this is an easy thing to do and get the holes exactly where they should be? then i'd probably have to smoothen the edges a bit.
or should i just ask some metal workshop to do it (i wonder how much it'd cost)?
and finlly i would paint the thing. i'm thinking of spraying the base colour and then doing all the finer details by hand with some brush most likely. i know it wouldn't look like one bought from the shop, but it'd look homemade and i think that's exactly what i want.

anyway does anyone have any tips on this or any comments at all?

I used to work at a metal shop making these exact type of things (not for DJ mixers, but we made housings for a lot of telecommunications stuff....same thing pretty much).

A faceplate like that is made from steel (16 guage) and the holes are usually made on a CNC punching press (think of a LARGE hole puncher).

Then its painted, baked and silk-screened with all the numbers/graphics.

For a machine shop to make one single faceplate would be expensive..you gotta set up the machine, make the drawings, set up the CNC program etc... (all for a 30 second punching!)

If you do want to drill out all the holes yourself, you'd have to be very precise...

You know, it might just pay to buy a spare faceplate, sand it, and re-paint it the way you want!

i was hoping you'd post here as you were the one that got the new faceplate for your vestax mixer somehow. i'd like to ask how much it did cost and how exactly did you get it? something about a part number i remember? (i'm most likely looking to get an extra rotary faceplate for vestax pcv-175).

Not hard....just sand it, buy some good automotive spray paint from Canadian Tire and thats it!

Its all the lettering thats gonna be a bitch tho....

I contacted the authorized Vestax dealer in Canada and I asked where I could get it, they gave me the part number and told me to order it at a particular store, and that was that... Costed me $79CAD + tax...

The rotary kit for my mixer costs like $160-ish CAD + tax...

Sort of on the same lines;
I've been thinking about spraying my dex for ages, some metalic colour, like purple, or green. Something different, and they could do with a nip and tuck.
No need to buy a replacement unless you think you'll mess it up. If you're only getiing it for resale, buy it later.

my friend suggested that i'd try to do the new faceplate from plastic. it would be A LOT easier to drill by yourself and it's cheaper too. (i know plastic usually feels cheap and looks ugly but i'm tempted to try a plastic one out. then if i get it looking really nice but the feel isn't nice i could always go with the metallic one later on. but if it looks like crap and doesn't really work out i wouldn't have spent THAT much money on it) what does everyone think about that?

ya culd be a working prototype! like u say cheaper and u can use it as a template to create a metal one!

if u wanna be a real nerdy modder u culd use clear perspex and put neon cathodes in it! lol

i could, but i hate neon lights and blue leds etc. i think they're horrible so i think i'll just go with a black one and paint the markings with white.
