i like the idea of a few on board FX. I dont use them too much so i wouldnt buy an external fx unit. so having them in the mixer is enough. I like the looping feature offered on the denon and pioneer but ecler has no looping. I use serato with tech 1200 so i have no looping available until i buy a CDJ1000.

Good suggestion... the more I see and use different setups, the more I think that anyone wanting to use fx is better off with an external fx.
Of course if you've got onboard fx and external fx then you've got even more power...
Although mr orange_j says he doesn't really feel the need for external fx.
I've got a DN-X1500 and I'm very happy with it, but it has it's drawbacks - the channel faders have a lag (crossfader is fine so cutting/scratching isn't a problem if you use that for it) and we're still yet to receive the promised update to correct it. Also, the fx take a little while to get used to using and aren't quite perfect in certain ways, like the bpm timing isn't incredible and with things like the transformer effect, it literally just cuts the sound instead of putting on a sharp fade, meaning you often get a little click every time it cuts in/out (this affects a few other effects as well). The build quality isn't incredible but it's fine for home use. It used to have loads of advantages over the DJM600 in that it had manual filters, the looping echo etc but now Pioneer have copied all of those fx!
A couple of things the Denon's still got over the Pioneer though are matrix input assign (so you can put any input on any channel, or one input on more than one channel if you like - you can do some cool stuff with that) and the fx send section is separate from the onboard fx, so if you were to get a separate fx unit, with the X1500 you can apply onboard and external fx at the same time - something you can't do with the DJM800.
Dunno if this helps your decision, just thought I'd add it.
