So the competition was a massive failure... for rea
I think there are just too many issues with a defined play list. One issue is the cost of entering, another one comes down to preference.
A typically mix whatever the hell you want sort of competition featuring trance as the first genre is what I thought might attract enough participants.
One crazy idea I had was to have a MP3 vs CD vs Vinyl competition. Or even forum vs forum...lol
Practically nobody participated in the event, so I'd like to hear from DJs what kind of competition they would like to participate in.
After Nick messaged me, I realized that competitions are really a great way to listening to other DJs and pick up new techniques, or just spark up new ideas of your own. So I hope that we can create a new and improved competition.
Thanks.

House, including any sub genres, one half hour, no rules.. thats just an idea
One of the main reasons I didn't participate was because of the terrible selection of tunes we were given. Don't get me wrong, most of them were great tunes, but they're overplayed (see: every "classic" compilation), everybody's heard them, and there's not much new that can be done with them.
Also, the cost of entering shouldn't be worried about. Since the mixes will be submitted to judges at a slightly low bitrate, there's really no way to tell whether or not someone bought or illegally obtained their tunes. The result is that people who are unable to afford to enter are still able to do so.
If this is to be done again then you'll need to select a group of four or five people to sit down and discuss how it will be done as opposed to letting the whole forum in on it, because at that point it gets tough trying to decide on one thing. Also, I don't think that there is a way to successfully entice everyone to enter the same competition.

Totally agree with Idoru on this. I'm really sad it didn't work out..
I would have loved to participate but the track selection / genre just wasn't for me.. It's a great idea to have maybe 4-6 guys sit down and try to plan a new comp.. It would be sweet.
And if possible the competition could be (for example) three different genres.. Maybe..
Trance
Electro & Tech-house
Ambient (?)
And to each genre different guy's to select the tracks..?
I know for a fact that we'd have TA's that could make a track selection that everyone (well most of us) could relate to..

No one is suprised it was a failure, right?
Terrible choice of tracks that were anything but relevant to the majority of DJ's who post in here - beyond which, the whole thing just felt rushed and hastily put together.
A little bit of thought and deliberation goes a long ways - I'm with Jake, leaving it up to a whole forum to figure out is asking for disorder and apathy.

No, it doesn't. It just means getting together a small (see: three or four) group to take their time and decide on how the competition is going to run. The group should also understand that there's no way that the competition will be one that allows for all members of the forum to enter unless it's just a general mix competition (even then, lots of people will have a problem with that).

How about giving the competition some focus like make the best mix you can for a different environment?
eg. make a warm up set
a peak time set
a closing set
a summer set
a set for studying
a set to introduce your friends to edm
a set which consists of tunes that only came out in 2004-2005...
