KarateKid Anyone has this habbit ?

I am just abedroom Dj but for some reason I love building sets...I ignore BPM's for the most part but put a lot of effort into making the best set I can then after perfecting the set, I get bored and never record it to CD...instead I buy new records and right away start trying to make new sets.. I hope I'm not the only one..

so you're hoping you're not the only one that enjoys DJing, and buys records to play, but doesn't record anything? Sounds like a lot of people.

I was thinking it has to be more than just me..especially since I know I love the music and I know if you are on this site you love the music also..sometimes there is nothing to show or proove by recording a set..just flow...I get vinyl greedy..but geez there is so many good songs out there , it's an addiction

wait so you play your sets just because you like the songs? You don't care about the flow or anything of your sets? I don't know about you, but every time i do something, I put all my effort into it. I try to express my emotions and feelings through the music and the energy of the music that I play, to try and convey it with the crowd. Otherwise your just some guy who likes a song and is mashing it up with another song that he likes.

I put a lot of effort into it and make sure the songs work together..I mean some songs I don't pick to go into a mix..some songs pick themsleves and what I mean is that a song I didn't mean to put into a set just sounds best so I use it...I put a lot of effort but when I get around to recording it, I just rather build another set..it's a bad habbit.. I need to break it

Wait, I'm sorry but I really don't get where you are trying to go with this. So you want to break a habit of DJing, recording a set, thinking you can do better so you make a new set? I'm sorry but I really don't see where you're trying to go with this.

Yeah, that's kind of the point of deejaying. it's all about the tracks you play. When I first buy a bunch of new ones I always try to string them together, regardless of if it's a good set or not, because it's just a way to familiarize myself with the new tracks and also a way to discover interesting things that you never would dare to do in a stressful crowd situation.

He started the thread saying that he "builds sets" and repeatedly refers to the word "set", so I think you should give him a little more credit than you are.

maybe your problem is you're a perfectionist.. and by the time you finish perfecting a set so much you get bored of it to record it, so you go and make a new one and continue the cycle..

just don't think about it so much and record w/e you do without any planning prior

i do it all the time, but i wouldn't move on to making a different set because i'm bored with the one i've perfected.. i make sure i record it, if i planned on doing so in the beginning. it would defeat the purpose of perfecting the set, if you don't record it. otherwise, there's no need to perfect it.. unless you would rather do a pre-organized set during parties and such, but i prefer to pick out which tracks to play as i go.

I love doing this with new tracks. Last week I bought 20 or so tracks on Beatport, loaded them up in Serato without ever listening to them or keying them or anything like that, and threw together a set. I did click "record" though I have a little flash recorder, so I nearly always record what I do.

Here it is, I was pretty happy with how it came out. If you like proggy goodness, you might like it:

Nop defenitly not me.
3 Reasons I DJ
1. I like listening to my own sets
2. It's fun
3. I like hearing what others have to say or hopefully help someone enjoy music.
47593. Brag rights
That's probably my order of things.
Unfortunately some people have brag rights on top.

I know a lot of other people say they like listening to to tracks and thinking oh man that would go lovely there. I usually only do that with 1 or 2 tracks(per set) and think they would start/end a set great. Then when I'm in the business of making a tracklist I think about what songs would go nice where. Hell half the time the stuff I chose to finish the set ends up not being in it. Or sometimes I extend the set. It's all about flow for me.
