I've never done this before and was wondering whether its advisable or not with the extreme teperatures in the cargo hold at flying height, the last thing i want is to get to my destination and have no CD's to play

What are your views on this, has anyone done it before?

Definitely not, I'm almost certain.

Extreme temperatures in the cargo area? It's not that bad! The only things I could think of that would be damaged was aerosol products and air tight products.

is it not?? The outside temperature when flying is about -50, so would imagine the cargo hold gets quite cold. Again i dont know this for sure thats why i'm posting

The temperature in the cargo hold does not differ much from the temperature in the cabin - they put animals in the cargo hold too, you know.

Why on earth would you check your cds in???
Stick a cd wallet in your carry on- fits easily.

If its thiefrow you can kiss goodbye to them for starters.


As for the temperature... it is variable. If animals are on board its heated accordingly. If no animals or delicate cargo (which takes precedence over baggage) then it is significantly colder down below.

thanx mate, didnt really want to put it in my carryon, as it will take up all the space (UDG bag), but i'd rather that than have them stolen...

I travel from Canada to the Middle-East twice a year with one stop in Europe and everytime i do that i have my case logic in my suitcase cause its kinda heavy to have in my back pack.. I never had a problem.. just make sure they are between clothes!

Either way, the insulation down below is exactly the same as is up in the cabin. It never gets extremely cold down there.

But yeah - the real issue when putting stuff to cargo is you landing in Helsinki while your records are on their way to Hong Kong. I kinda have to look at the baggage handlers every day at work and I'm surprised anything gets sent to where it's supposed to go, really...

i've decided to pack my cd's in my checked baggage, and take my ext HDD with all my tunes on in my hand luggage just in case the worst happens

I've packed CDs in my checked luggage before, although they were mainly data CDs (and blanks) in a spindle.

TSA evidently couldn't figure out how to open it and actually ripped one of the tabs and a chunk of the cake box cover off in an effort to 'examine' them.

I would worry a bit more about theft, though. Safest bet is to carry them with you.
