fair price to ask for a DJM-500?

i'm looking to get rid of a DJM-500 mixer but it's got a bunch of knobs missing and the 3rd channel cuts out when fading in/out. it'd be a perfect basic mixer for someone starting out with only 2 decks so i'd rather get rid of it than pay to get it repaired... but i'm unsure of what to ask for it.

any thoughts? greatly appreciated.

I bought one used two years ago for $500. You could probably get it for less now, maybe 400-450.

+1

Yea... fader issues and missing knobs... I dont think a place like guitar center would even sell that as a floor model.

Look into replacing the fader, and knobs are cheap. You can probably get a good mark up on it.

If I remember right the faders in the 500 are pretty easy to replace. You just need to get the unit and I think it just has a couple of wires for the voltage control (I think).

Removing the faceplate would probably be the most work.

I have a 500 and its a tank. Not the best sound quality but its very much good at what its supposed to do. I have dropped it down a flight of concrete stairs once and it barely has a scratch and works perfectly still. I got it probably 7 years ago.

Then you're very lucky. I've seen 3 x 500's become unusable within a year from purchase under normal bedroom Dj use.

Would be alright to learn on as they're laid out quite well and have a lot of connectivity, but with those problems, don't really expect more than $150-200.

The only thing that is wrong with mine is that the headphone jack is a bit loose... but its just the mounting i think because its never affected the sound in the cans, no cuts or static or anything.

yeah I thought the 500 was built pretty well. I had one for a year or two that was one of the old ones (old Pioneer logo) and it worked fine. It had all the knobs and everything, none of the channels bled or were out whatsoever, and it was a club mixer for years prior to my ownership. It had some cosmetic scratches and whatnot, but other than that the thing was built solidly. It was also laid out incredibly logically which makes me want another djm

Mine has taken quite a bit of abuse as well...never done me wrong. I bring mine to play out often... it's seen quite a few clubs. Bought it used, too.
