Beatgridding trance tunes in traktor

Im having a bit of bother getting my traktor to behave when its autobeatgridding traks with a lot of high mid range. Can anyone tell me what is going wrong and how to fix this. Also any good info on how to stop wipe the auto beatgrid and do it completely manually.

There is no such thing as "auto beatgridding" in Traktor. Check out this video tutorial on how to do it properly

Yes there is. You click auto beat grid and it puts a grid down for you (after analyzing the track)

Though your advice is sound, beatgridding it yourself is a lot more accurate. Although i get quite a good success rate with auto beat gridding.

LOL, technically you're right. But that's pretty much the only way to beatgrid a track. You drop the Grid cue on a beat and the rest of the track gets gridded. Then you can manually adjust, but you can't actually make the grid yourself.

I find that I can get 99% of my tracks accurately gridded in 2 seconds or so. The amount of tracks that I've had to manually adjust is quite minimum. It happens mostly with tracks that don't have a round number of BPMs.

True, but if you do go into the grid section there is a little button with an A on it and a line below it. click that and it grids the track for you. Without you even having to drop a cue point and change it to grid. Again adjustments are up to yourself and how you like having your grid points lined up. You just have to make sure that they're relatively similar otherwise you'll get plenty of clashing sounds.

If I can't get a track locked down properly from the get go I just forget about it and move on to the next. Honestly considering how small the percentage of tracks is it's not even worth bothering with. Yes this has pained me several times when I bought tracks and realized they'll be a pain in the ass to mix. Sven Tasnadi - Hotel Seeblick (Marko Furstenberg Remix) comes to mind. I'm only mentioning this one because it's the most recent occasion on which this occurred.

Adam, there were some tunes that I thought were a pain in the ass to grid too. It's not the track itself, it has more to do with Traktor's BPM detection algorithm. All you need to do is adjust to the exact BPM manually and you're good to go.

There's 2 buttons that move the entire grid to the left or the the right. And the 2 buttons below those, expand or contract the grid as needed. You will notice that when you press either of those, the BPM goes up or down in .001 increments. Just find a part of the track that is not in line and use those buttons to move the grid. Then move to another section and do the same. You should have the whole track gridded perfectly in a minute or so.

Wow so you'd potentially give up on tune of the year if it doesnt auto beatgrid??

Thats a bit of a cop out man..

Good grief. I wonder what would had happened if vinyl DJ's did that a decade ago.

What track of the year? If the track was really important to me then I guess I would take the time. I don't know, I just never found the system to be very intuitive, so I just didn't bother. It happens so rarely that I'll load up a tune with an improper beatgrid, that I am just not too bothered. I don't see what the big deal is, and how you can even compare this to beatmatching with a record. Lol, this whole thing is so that there isn't any need to beatmatch. If I had the proper interface I wouldn't even pay attention to the grid, and this wouldn't even be a problem in the first place.

What throwing away?! Do you think that I toss any tracks I cannot beatgrid into my trash bin? I'm sure that even 10 years ago, or whenever, there were those tracks that were just such a pain in the ass to mix, that some people never got around to including them in a set. I mean if it's really worth working at it cuz the track is so good, then I understand biting the bullet, but like I said, it happens so fucking rarely that I just don't see it happening.
