I really would like to know if the american dj cd players are any good? I want to buy a Dual cd player, since its to expensive to me to order 2 single players, like pioneer´s. With my little research, i realized that american dj´s cdplayers, are the cheapest around, but i´m wondering if they are anygood. Does any of you guys have an american dj cd player, that can give some feedback, or anykind of opinion about dual cd players (max:350$ ). Thanks

Hi, Well.. I have heard that A single Cd Player Model of American DJ is very good, dont remember the model but is not the Dual cd Player... I think DJ Liquid Has a pair, maybe he could help ya.

My friend has a pair of the Pro-dj1's and when we played at a house party together, his decks wouldn't stop skipping because of the bassy speakers. This is a horrible thing to have happen if you ever bring your decks to a party or a club. I'm not saying all of AMDJ's products will do this, I'd hope that the higher quality ones will not--as the pro-DJ1's are the cheapest of the products they offer.


I would also not suggest any cd-player that has a tray or is top-loading either because it has the potential to break off! Just a word of caution before you buy! I don't mean to scare you off from cds or from american dj. You may wish to find a dealer in your area from www.americandj.com so that you can try them out first

Hi I own 2 American DJ Pro 3's. I have also used all the following models of CDJs:

American DJ Pro 1
American DJ Pro 2
American DJ Pro 3
American DJ Pro Scratch 2
Dennon 1800F
Dennon 2100F
Pioneer CDJ 500s (I think the small square black model)

I have also used some other models like the Pioneer 1000 but not for very long so I haven't listed it.


Basically what Flesch said above is true. The American DJ Pro 1 is not a good cd player to get (if you get one get the pro2 or pro3). The Pro 1 is very different to the pro 2 and pro 3. It has no instant start on the cd player which means when you press play there is a slight delay while the CD starts up similar to that of a discman.

Also none of the Pro1, Pro2, Pro3 have shock resistant memory (The pro scratch 2 does). This doesn't mean they skip though. My pro3 has never skipped and I have used it with a variety of speaker systems and setups. The reason they don't skip is that the tray is kind of suspended within the CD player. Anyway to put it simply if you pick up the cd player and shake it hard it will skip. If the cd player is sitting on a table behind a 1000 watt speaker system it will not skip. Anyway I have seen these cd players used in a variety of clubs in Sydney and they don't skip.


Next some of the differences between the American DJ Pros and the other CD players. I find the Pros are far more easy to use than some other brands of cd players especially Dennons. For example the pitch sliders on the dennons appear to be quite small and slipery. The AMDJ's are abit firmer and also you can make the range smaller on the pitch slider (+8% to -8%) this allows you to be more accurate when beatmatching. Also I prefer the jog dial on the American DJ's than the jog dial on the dennons. It is just easier to scan through tracks with. (By the way to the Dennon lovers I have not used some of the higher end dennons so I can't comment on them)

Next in comparison with the pioneers. The pioneers have a bigger jog dial and a bigger pitch slider which I prefer over the AMDJ's. But the pioneers buttons seem to wear out. I have seen alot of pioneers where you have to really press the buttons quite hard to make them work.

Anyway basically the American DJs (Not Pro 1s) are a great CD player. They work very well. I have had mine for nearly 2 years no problems at all, packed with features, cheap and very easy to use.

The Pro DJ3's do have buffer memory and anti-shock. It says on their site.. and i think the DJ2's might have it too. I've had a Pro DJ3 before and its a good deck.

For US$350 you could get a brand new DCD-400 dual CD player which has instant start, seamless loop, anti-shock, etc. I've tried it before and it does seem very reliable. The instant start is just that, but not as fast as a Pioneer.. But for $175 for a single deck the DJ2 would be your only option in the ADJ range.

Yeh it does have buffer memory but the buffer memory is what is used for scanning forward and backwards on a track with the jog dial. It doesn't have anti skip memory (Similar memory to discmans). Only the pro scratch 2 has that. If you pick up a pro 3 and jolt it abit whilst playing it will skip. I haven't really found the lack of anti skip memory to be a problem though because normally the cd players are sitting on a table.

It's good to hear that another person recommends the Pro 3's!
