How to MIX????????????????????????????

Ok, you beat match the records....now what? I'm not really into DJing or anything but I think it would be really cool to mix your own music. Well, this kid who lives down the hall told me to do the following to mix.

1. Match the beats.

2. Cue up the 2nd song at the beginning of the 16th or 32nd beats. (I think he was telling me that something new happens to the song every 32 beats)

3. When the 1st song is about to hit the end of the its 32nd beats, match the beats with the 2nd song.

4. Quicky to the fader into the middle (he told me to make sure that the 2nd song's volumn is at the middle)

5. Work the EQs. (whatever the hell that means)

6. Fade out out the first song by trimming up the second song.

Is this right? Because I heard him one time and he couldn't even match the beats right.

bro, honestly, I just play it by ear. I can't really explain what I do...I just play with out thinking . Free's up your mind, and lets you be more creative. But someone else might have a better input than mine . later.

Yea, you also gotta do those pvd and teisto hand pumps, and my favourite; the invisible eq's. In some dd and sensation vids the dj's are all over the eq, and nothing is happening. I love watching it, its probably not even a live channel, just makes em look busy.

I always wondered about that

I went to see Bad Boy Bill spin and he was all over the eq's

durring his set with both hands he took the line faders (both tracks live) and pumped them up and down

IT SOUNDED INCREDIBLE

I about creamed my pants

he is 100% pure skill

if your friend couldnt even beatmatch his sh!t, then i wouldnt take his words too serious. like dude said already, play it by ear and just keep practicing. you'll eventually get better.

personally tho, just to play it safe and get a decent mix in, i wait for the song to go back into almost just the basic bassline. wait 32 beats and then cue the next record in. wait 32 beats after that and then kick the second record in. usually theres like 64 beats after you kick it in, for the first mini break of the song to hit so it doesnt sound like too drastic of a mix. just remember that while mixing, its ok to f*ck with the knobs and what not. just have fun and make it sound however you feel it should. hope that helps

I'll try to explain:

Matching beats doesn't go by 16th or 32nd.
To put it simple, the second song's clap/snare has to be in the same place as the first. so your put in the 2nd song on headfones when the cycle of 16/32/ beats of the first record starts
Now you have to speed up the 2nd song phones if it is to slow(with main pitch), and slow down the 2nd song if the beat runs away(also with main pitch). Now you need a while to get the beatmatch exactly, especially when spinning trance with long transitions you need a steady beatmatch. You think(dutch>english) right but you have to mind the clap, if you already do, that's good.
It's not right to say 16th or 32nd because that's pretty fast(it's a fourth(16th note) or a 16 th(32nd note)part of 1 beat( I play the trombone so I notice it). You can be original to cue the track on the first beat of the start of the cycle(16/32 beats) but fade in when you want and not on the first beat. You can do it quikly but more time for the fadein is better.
Working the eq means you can't put two track on with the second song also having a full eq then your sound will be louder and you want it to be equal, right. So you turn down either high mid or low down as you wish and do a croosfade with the eq when the second tracks fader is up you turn the first song's high slowly or direct down and song two up. You have to know how your levels are originally to have the sound of the second song right, I ussually do it with listening instead of learning the eq.

Well, if anything is not clear, I would like to hear it!!
Good luck with djing
