best : vinyl

cheapest : cd

you could go into more details , pros and cons etc
but it really comes down to those two facts.

now it all depends how much you are willing to spend, on the equipment, and on the *media* ( cd or vinyl )

different factors, different choices
different people, different strokes.

to each his own.

for me Vinyls all the way even though it cost a hell lots of $$$$ but its more original (DJing started with Turntables anyways and I think thats how it should be). I want to feel what im mixing

WEll, with CD u can hold a lot songs and its more compact but still VINYL is the way to go (for me anyways).

sorry, but this topic has been beaten to death and flame wars have erupted
just do a search and you'll find the answers you seek
but basically, it does come down to personal preferance
you really can't compare though, it's like apples and oranges

I don't respect DJ's that play cds. Now,,, it's one thing if you're playing your own tracks and what not,,, and also if you just play one or two songs on cd. But when I see DJ's playing only cds it really pisses me off because of how much time,,, money and effort goes into finding rare vinyl.

there is no comparison, vinyl rules and cd's are cack. nuff said. theres many arguments both ways. and as for cd's being cheaper... i wouldn't say so. Initially the hardware is going to cost you a LOT compared to normal turntables. The new pioneer cdj series are like twice as much if not more than a decentish turntable.

then you've got the cd's to buy. if your buying singles on cd, its gonna cost like £3.99 - the same price as a commercially released vinyl. there is however a more vast array of releases, including white labels and the like. You can download white label rips off the net and burn them to cd, but your risking loss of quality, and also burning mp3 to cd and using it in a club is illegal is it not?

I am forever vinyl

Only immature children "have no respect" for people using cds. The skills required by either a vinyl dj or a cd dj are THE SAME. If it really makes you feel like the absolute shit because you have to search for months to find that *one* special record, then seriously.. be my guest fool

I *like* my cdj1000's. I also like my Denon 151 turntable. But can anyone here really say that they'd rather listen to a mediocre vinyl jock over a kickass dj who used cds? The media does NOT equal talent kids.

^^^ i'd rather listen to a shit dj playing vinyl than good dj playing cdrs... why? because of respect... respect for the producer that did all the work and put their heart and soul into developing all those kick ass tracks... don't you think they should be rewarded?

i think so...

i like to use both when i play
if there's a cdj there for the djs to use at a party, i'm going to use it
i think the best djs are the ones who can incorporate anything and everything into their sets
i'm actually going to start looking for a good effects unit and a nice sampler to make my sets that better

Thats part of the problem with cd DJs. They get to carried away with effects and sampeling, and get distracted from the mix. For me, the mix is the fun part. I have cd decks, and turntables. There is just nothing like the feel on vinyl under your fingers.
