Starting up is a new night weekly at a new club called TOUCH.
The club opens in mid February and the weekly will be on Fridays.
Its going to be a night focused on combining favorite local art forms:
* Music and Graphics/Photography.
The focus will be on highlighting local DJs alongside local heavies in our industry and national level at times. Letting the new guys side up alongside the established types, the bedroom DJs play up with the main stage guys, and give some air to the up comers. We also will feature national artists with local artists on occasion.. Such as on our opening night where we will feature Julius Papp, a person well known to support such ideals.
This night intends to give upcoming Djs and artists the chance, something many of us never got, and some still don't get proper support. Exposure is key and getting it is difficult. Its pretty obvious int his city that there is great talent, nationally recognized, yet locals still don't think we got what it takes. Sad when the world does and we don't. So, lets take the lid off this and get some familiarity with what we have and start to learn more about the reality of what's going on here in Houston, and not just what the naysayer's here have to say.
Its hard enough making good art without having to run up against the wall of politics and haters. The amazing bed of talent in the city both on decks and production, combined with our intense graphics and photography community should have a chance, and here they can combine together for these events.
What I have noticed is a serious lack of promotion abilities for some talents and lots of ridiculous politics, causing allot of DJs to loose hope, and making it very hard for new art to take birth into the city. Especially hard for new artists to figure out how to "come up."
This night and project is set up to give even the least known talent a taste of what real promotion is like, maybe some direction on how to get it done, and give the city a display of real talent homegrown and present here today. Hopefully this will encourage artists to learn more about how to relate to the city, their community and gain wider audience for all to enjoy.
DJ's/Music will focus on various house styles, DnB, and techno. But any artistically solid style will be involved. Graphics are wide open for styles and displays and approach, as well as photography. Though we will try to match music artists with graphic and photography art that works well together, at least as best we can for each event.
Respect for locals. We produce, we DJ, and we work for years with graphic artists and photographers. We also know we have amazing artists that are jewels of the city yet not crowned (that sounded good eh?) So we are to give more exposure and opportunity and respect for our local artists with these unique and interesting skills. There are giants here, yet the new guys who are published, released and accomplished have no real known area of support locally. We intend to give them more then just a flyer with their name on it. Instead, we will give them the same promotion given to our biggest of headliners.
On occasion we will book a national DJ to come play and support what is going on and have locals up there with national acts. This also will encompass having locals playing out to a wider based audience, an audience with some music heads, some core clubbers, some artists, and some random bar patrons all combined and that will check it out. The patrons and supporters will be given full info on the artists involved each week in the form of a CD, print, bio, etc and encouraged to spread the word on these artists and support the art in our city. They will also be able to go and check out the same talent online at home afterwards.

- Photography/Graphic Artists interested in showcasing their art as part of the event overall at the venue on these nights. Contact us at [email][email protected] with some info on you and maybe samples of art you would like to showcase.
- Hosts: Key people who can attend all or at least most of the events and assist making the event production it self go off well. if you would be interested in being heavily involved in this sort of thing, give me a shout.
- Supporters: Supporters, both at events and online and involved with pushing local art are KEY. if you got something that would combine well or can support this project, give me a shout.
