It was my first night in Miami for WMC 2007. I couldn't wait to see Ferry Corsten again in Miami! I had great memories of Ferry Corsten's awesome set one year before @ Crobar, a great venue in South Beach which had since closed and reopened as Cameo. Was this new place going to be as much as fun as Crobar? I wasn't going to be disappointed!
I finally made it to Cameo after 11 pm. The staff at the door was just as friendly as the Crobar staff, and I was let through the will-call line in no time. Cameo still retained the ambience of an art-deco theather. Once I went through the main door, only the cavernous ceiling seemed to be the only thing that remained the same. The DJ booth was remodeled, now shaped as a disco ball split in half. VIP lounges were at opposite ends of the dance floor. At first glance, the dance floor seemed small, but it was much bigger once I walked closer to the DJ booth. This place looked really nice!
Now, on to the music. Edgar V took over from the mediocre first DJ, and proceeded to spin a good opening set of breaks and tribal house. I hadn't seen Edgar V since his last appearance at GLOW DC in October 2004, so it was great hearing him spin again! In the meantime, I managed to meet some awesome people from all over (Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Monterey Mexico), who noticed my Ferry Corsten T-shirt.
Ferry Corsten finally took around 1:45 and didn't waste any time! Right from the start, Ferry's set was loud and energetic. After awhile, Ferry started going into more melodic trance. I remained in front of the DJ booth, watching Ferry wave his arms and work his magic with the crowd. I must admit that I went crazy when Ferry dropped Galaxia...one of my favorite Ferry tracks! I was absolutely ecstatic when Ferry dropped Beautiful, another of Ferry's tracks which always takes my breath away! Not too long after, Ferry dropped Fire, another one of my favorites! After a few more beauties, Ferry dropped Dogzilla - Without You. I was going crazy this whole time, in absolute happiness! After dancing for what seemed like 2 hours, I stepped out for a drink (Red Bull and Grey Goose). I immediately ran to the dance floor after my drink, as soon as I heard Ferry drop BT - Sonambulist (Mark Norman remix)! To top it all off, BT wandered into the DJ booth to greet Ferry. That was a nice surprise!
Ferry started going back into hard bangin' sounds toward the last hour. I remember dancing like mad as soon as he dropped L.E.F! After awhile, I was a little tired, so I went for water and I stood by one of the railings on the right side of the floor. Ferry brought me back out to dance for two encores. I loved hearing Ferry's remix of William Orbit - Adagio For Strings! It was beautiful as always! Ferry dropped one of his trance classics that I had not heard in years...Gouryella - Gouryella! I was tired but I couldn't resist dancing till the end! Unfortunately Ferry Corsten had to finish his set around 5 AM. Club management wanted to close down for the night. Asides from the fact that Ferry's very last encore (Rock Your Body Rock) was cut short, my night ended on a great note! Ferry signed my L.E.F. CD sleeve...I was really happy! There was no better way to begin my WMC 2007 experience!
I can't wait to see Ferry Corsten @ GLOW in June!
