Review: Paul van Dyk & Sander Kleinenberg @ Space 3/28
Ok... so this was my first time at Space and after all the crazy talk about getting there early so you could ensure u got in before the 3am deadline, we got there at 12:40 and there was no line, we walked right in. The main room was already packed. Edgar V was on playing some shitty music, including a horrid remix or remake of Linkin Park's "In The End"... then around 1:15 or so a huge member of security shoved me out of the way as Paul van Dyk was escorted in right by me, everyone cheered. Edgar played for like 3 or 4 more songs then Paul came on. Off the top of my head, he played:
Cressida - 6AM (Kyau & Albert Mix)
Nitrous Oxide - Waves (Signalrunners Mix)
Paul van Dyk - Nothing But You
+ one other song I recognized but couldn't put a name or artist to. Overall I was unimpressed and dissapointed from what I heard, he was soooo much better at Ultra in 2005. But anyway...
We only stuck around for a lil bit, headed out after Nothing But You was played to get our spot at the Terrace.
Sander THANKFULLY went on nearly 2 hours early... I was dreading that 6am start time, I think he went on around 4:15ish. He started off slow with some proper prog house and such. He started to pick up the pace around 5:45/6am. They thankfully opened up the back room and there was much more room to dance in there, so that's where we hung, didn't want to be squished with the crowd... I'm there to dance and enjoy a good set, not bounce up and down squeezed by people staring at a DJ spin records.
Unfortunately I had to leave at 7am, because my friend was absolutely exhausted and in pain. Her arm was really hurt and her feet were killing her. So I frowned hardcore and walked about... I'm sure I missed hours of insanity. We left right after he dropped:
MOS - Emotional Distortion (Popof Remix)
Looooove that tune, just the fact I got to end my Sander K experience with that song made me somewhat ok with having to leave early right during his ascent to greatness
I have a feeling ppls reviews will depress me for having to leave even more... lol.
Anyway, I had fun. I have a vid of that last song during the break when it builds and explodes. Mmmmm goodness. I'll try and post it later with some minimal pics.

Holy shit what a great fuckin night. Opinions and taste do seem 2 vary, and I have to completely disagree with the review above me. If anyone did not like PVD's set they do not like high BPM hard trance, end of story, and need 2 go listen to house music or something else that is more to their taste. Luckily for them it was available upstairs big time.
I have seen PVD every time he has come to Miami since 2000, except for Ultra 2006 - 2008. And this was by far his best set here in MIA in years. Ultra 2005 was fluff compared to this set, and for anyone to state otherwise is insane. I showed up half asleep and tired as hell, and PVD took care of that problem 4 me. Last night PVD dropped banging high BPM tech trance and hard trance for the first 2 hours straight, while layering major edits and effects over unknown & known tracks all with sick nasty basslines. He only brought down the tempo about 2 hours in. He then built the energy back up to a fever pitch in that room beautifully for the last 1.5 hours. This was the type of set he needs to stick to, hard and fast.
I went upstairs unable to feel my legs, but wanted to check out some of Sander K's set after PVD. I caught 1.5 hours of his terrace set (5:30 to 7:00), and I loved what he was playing. It was very funky-chunky groovy house music, that makes you want to move. I liked what Moriilo played the other day on the terrace, but IMO Sander K still owns the terrace musically above all other DJs. The terrace suits his talent and style best.
yea i unfortunately couldnt make WMC this year after having just got back from trance energy a month ago, but i listened to pvd's set from last nite at space as they broadcasted it today on sirius and he just owns the mainroom year after year!! pure madness when hes behind the decks at space, or anywhere for that matter...cant wait to be back there next year!

More to follow later... got to rest! I have a PvD vid with a song I want ID'ed and two more short Sander K things + some pics
*the video is apparently still processing, hopefully it is up and running soon.
Yeah touching on that....after reading alot peoples comments about getting to the terrace really early....I got there at 3.30 for Morillo afterhours after being advised on here..and i walked straight on the terrace with no probs...next time Il get to the terrace around 6ish and have a power nap first....maybe this may have been because there wasnt a massive name in the main room ( chus & ceballos) such as ferry or PVD...either way im from the UK and it was my first Club Space experience and it was crrraaazy!! Back for WMC 2009

Paul absolutely destroyed the main room. there was nothing slow till the very end. Very hard high energy trance and techno. At one point around 148bpms and he played wundervul knowing he had just played an epic night at space

when the set gets posted all doubts will be gone, i can count bpms pretty well. it wasnt for the whole set just two tracks but it stayed above 138 till the end of his set which is unusual for paul now a days
