HuH??? Picotto - Harmonic Mixing? I don't think sooo...(same for Jules)
There have to be melodies in the songs in order to do harmonic mixing. I mean Picotto is great, but that's not what JayD was looking for. Your supposed to find out the keys of your records and then mix them according to the harmonic overlay chart. This is way beyond what most deejays do, believe me, I know many.
I mean just think about the situation: Your playing LIVE, maybe you know that the record you're playing is in Eb key. But wait, you're playing at +4 percent, now what does that make the key? +6% would be one halfstep up, but +4%? Oh well now I have to find a record that's Bb key (the perfect fifth) and hopefully it has the same bpm, because if I make it more than or less than +4%, it won't be the right key anymore....and I only have a minute or so for beatmatching...oh well
SEE how HARD this is ???
I can imagine someone doing this for a Mix CD, but doing this live is almost impossible. Maybe for one transition out of a whole set, but that's it. Sometimes you will get "correct" harmonic mixes by chance and a good ear, but not on purpose.
Well JayD, for more info go to djprince.net or harmonic-mixing.com
thanks to skywarp for the first link. I just dicovered these myself and didn't have the time to read them, but I will. This is CRAZY shit, but I believe it can make the nicest transitions, if done properly.
just had another listen to Jules @ qontact...transition from airwave to madonna is definitely out of key.
