Sunset Project @ Home feat. Matt Ashworth . . Review - PHOTOS ARE UP!
PHOTOS ARE UP, GO TO PAGE 2!
Hey guys, I know I'm on late,
My day, headed into city, met up with the lovely Helena, swaped some sweet sweet 12" (cheers Helen!), and then headed down to Home.
Went to the door at 7, said I was djing, got a mad Staff Pass i got to clip on my belt, then went up to the Silver room. I loved it, you get stopped by Security, you show your pass and they move the rope aside for you and call you sir. It was awsome!
Got to the Silver room with my sack o recs, there was a dude there, bla bla bla, he asked me if I could beatmix. I said yeh of course. He was like "Can you teach me?"
Now this was the guy that was looking after the Silver room. I also found out he doesnt even like club music much, he likes rock etc. WTF!
So I mucked around figuring out the Vestax Mixer, got the hang of it, and got the hang of the CDJ 500's.
THen this other dude came, he was 15 and he starts playing blinding trance . . 1999, Destination Sunshine etc. I was "SHWEEET"
One thing I was not hapy about in the SIlver room, they had all the couches out, so there was no dancefloor! But that was ok. There werent many peeps in there when it opened so I went down and danced to Pee Wee for a while. Hard Trance
Then headed back up and took over the decks. The dude was so mad, he goes "play what you want, are you ok if I go, yep, seeya be back later"
I had the whole place to myself. So I played mainly prog, as it wasnt the right atmosphere for trance. I think I played
Infusion - Legacy (Junkie XL Mix)
Planet Funk - Who Said? (Club Mix)
Slacker - Looky Thing
Timo Maas - Ubik (The Breakz)
Trisco - Ultra (Dub)
Echomen - Substance (Main Mix)
Orbital - Illuminate
Ian Wilkie - Guten Morgen
Bedrock - Emerald
iio - Rapture (AvB Mix)
It may not be in order, first and last track are right, but thats it. There were more people in there at the end than at the start, so it was cool. The guy kicked me off then, he wanted to play 80's rock. But all the beat mixing was awsome, and the mixing, the dude told me it was awsome, and great mixing etc bla bla bla and that's how Pee Wee abd that started out (I hope Im not like Pee Wee!)
I know Planet Funk went down well, my mates said it was an awsome song, and the dude was singing along with it. Also Ubik and Trisco (my cool turn off TT slow dwn then at the break, hammer it back in again!, got heaps of well dones for that) and Rapture of course, cause everyone knows the words!
Then I just went downstais checked out Mark Dynamix. I thought he played Prog Trance, he was playing al this BXR stuff, hard trance, I was dissapointed.
Some of the tracks played by other DJs in the main room
iio - At The End
Sasha - Expander!!!!!
Kosheen - Catch
4 Strings - Diving
Some Ferry Mix I saw
But overall a good night, I loved it, never had the shakes (WOOHOO!), about the other DJs in the Silver, they couldnt mix a drink! It was basically some dude playing whateve he wanted, just crossfading. But they had fun.
To Helen about the pussycats, I was going through my records behind the decks and this chick comes around and kneels down next to me, leaning on me, she was totaly pissed off her head, prob on drugs too, and I was just talking to her "hows your night bla bla bla" and shes like "yeeeh yeeeh" like putting her arms around me, but she was drunk, so I just kinda moved off.
Then we went out, and sat by the harbour for like an hour. Awsome.
Next time I'm gonna send the dude about 100 demos, until he can't take anymore and lets me play in the main room. (ha yeh right).
But thanks for all the support, i really appreciate it, hopefully this may get the ball rolling, id love to get some more gigs *crosses fingers*, plus its nice to have "I have played at Home, Sydney" on my bio
Cheers
Matt
