Im going to buy one of these mixers this weekend and I would like some opinions.

DJM-600 $1950 Can
DJM-500 $1450 Can

Is the DJM-600 worth the extra $500? What are some of your opinions on the sound quality, durability, and features of these two.

$2000 is getting kinda pricey for me but if there is an overall concenses its the best way to go then Ill think Ill go for it.

its an upgrade of the 500 and offers more.
as long as the money is rite, i'd go for it.

Definitely the 600...i saw dave clarke in video clip using it and it was so freakin good...he kept messing with the sampler to create new beats throughout his session...jp

Any comments on the new headphone cue/master feature replacing the Monitor EQ on the 500?

It just depends what you want to do with the mixer. I think the only two differences between the 500 and the 600 are the sampler and xfader curve adjuster.

First of all, the sampler only has 4 seconds of memory (from what I recall) and holds one sample at a time. You can hit the button to play samples once or loop them. Watching Dave Aude's video where he beats the hell out of the sample button is kind of cool... but personally I wouldn't pay the extra $350US / $500CAN for it. You can get your hands on a separate sampler for that price range that can hold many more samples as well as do phrases etc.

XFader curve... I would care if I did hiphop or house or something, but I don't. The gain knobs and overall feel of the mixer's controls give you a precise and fine control over the mix... I've started to use knobs for mixing more than the xfader.

The 600 is a snazzy mixer, if money is not much of an object for you, go ahead and buy it. If you're really cutting a budget though, save the extra $ and buy some records with it.

If you really have to go for pioneer then go for the 500. Like nekonihau said, the only difference is the sampler and curve control (xfader). This is only my personal view, but i stay well away from mixers with built in effects because 99% of them will never come close to the adjustability, quality and use of separate mixer and effects/sampler units. I have used the 600 extensively and when the initial novelty value of the effects/ sampler wore off, I just got annoyed with the limitations of the mixer. The quality of the pioneer range is decent but simply not in the same league as other similar priced mixers (allen & heath, vestax etc). also for the difference in price from the 500 to 600 you cpuold nearly get a very good stand alone sampler which will kick the shit out of the crappy pioneer one. Don't get me wrong, the 500 and 600 are good mixers, if they perfectly suit your needs, but I strongly believe there are better mixers for the same or even less money and all in one (mixers with built in effects units/sampler) are not the way to go, especially if you want to use the mixer for any pro use.
