what's an LP?

I own about 4 LPs but I have no idea what "LP" stands for. Can anyone help? Also, what's the difference between a mix and a dub? Does anyone know any "general info" websites that might have this kind of information?

Peace,
E

Smoking ..umm..something

LP is Short for “Long Play.” One of the four major record formats, an LP is a “long play” record, which usually has six songs on each side and plays at 33 1/3 rpm.

Hmm.. There is EP which i think is extended play, usually has like 2 tracks on each side most of the time 2 on one side.. and 1 on the other side. And i think the other might be SP, Single play?..

Yes, there's EP, like DarkEvil says. There's also the 45 single, which has one song on each side and spins at... you guessed it, 45 rpm.
Some records spin at 78 rpm - not sure what ones, i think really old ones might do this, i mean really old, we're talking grammaphone here. But i'm not certain.

You know what I want to know....
Why does an artist make a song, then make his "own" mix of it????

Ex. Mauro Picotto - Komodo (Picotto Mix).

Its like ... DUDE! You already made the song! heheh...and then the mix doesn't sound ANYTHING like the original....
Its like.....DUDE! Why didnt you JUST MAKE IT ANOTHER SONG!????

hah

-the ABT experience-

LP = Long Play
EP = Extended Play

And then?
CD = Compact Disc
MD = Mini Disc
Or which other two do you mean?

Artists often do their own remixes because a certain track can work well in many different ways, to spin at different times in a set. Look at PvD, he often does multiple mixes of his own tracks, like "Tell me why" the original and the mixes were very different, almost different songs, but basically just extending or reworking the main parts of the song.

If anyone else knows the deal with "dub" let me know too , cuz I have no idea.
