NYC Clubs

I saw a post that someone put up about what is the "best" club in New York City...First of all I think that it's impossible to answer. I'm not sure whether the person was from the city or just trying to get some info before visiting....but there is no such thing as the "best" any experienced party-goer will know that different people have different tastes...

And I wanna just add to this TWILO- Soundfactory thing... Twilo has some crazy parties on Fridays, when PVD, digweed, sasha and the rest fly in to spin. But on Saturdays...that club is fucken disgusting. I admire Junior for his work and is contribution to New York house music, but he is a lowlife. It's ok to have a "prefered" crowd to spin to.... but does that mean he has to discriminate against straight people? To play shit music if there are girls around??????
As for soundfactory. I belive that on saturdays, it is by far the most happening place in the city. For all of you that say, JP can't
"even hold a candle up to PVD" (or whatever that was) you obviously have no CLUE as to what youre talking about. Youre comparing two djs from two different ends of the world with two different styles... JP has NEVER MISSED a night of Factory for 5 YEARS. He spins till 3,4,5,6 PM to over 3,000 people!!!! I'm sorry, if you are a new yorker....you cannot talk trash about this guy. I'm not saying he's better or worse than PVD for example.... he's different. Yes PVD revolutionized trance music, but JP created his own music. He's a top 40 DJ??? ok....I won't even comment on that one.

I want somebody to name me a place and a DJ with a better vibe, than JP and soundfactory on saturdays in New York City.

Just my 2 cents

Maximus JP created his own music?....really? What music is that? House? now i'm not saying JP is not a good or even great HOUSE DJ, but its not hard to play the same monotonous beat all the time and then make comments about trance....obviously you did nor hear his interview on WLIR. The guy comes off as an arrogant bastard who cares only about one thing..himself, he could care less about the dancefloor and playing to the crowd, now seeing that he DJ's primarily to K'ed up steroid heads, I would never go back again. Its time for JP to realize that a good Trance DJ would make him look like a novice. Good trance dj's try to please the crowd not push them around.

Thumbs down

JP used to be good back in the day, when he started at Factory in 97. When's he's on, he's on! But half the time he's soo mangled he plays 45 mins of a Whitney Houston remix or 3 hours of tribal. I heard he was HORRIBLE the past 2 wks. SF is NOT about the music. It's bout looking good, showing off, & gettin ass.

TWILO is/was for muzik lovers. ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. Twilo had a betta sound system, vibe, energy.

I only go to Factory when Johnny Vicious is playing.

There seems to be alot of confusion here about JP vs PVD. First, i wasn't comparing the dj's. I distinctly pointed out that jp is not a trance dj. PVD is a trance DJ. As for as "holding a candle to" comment, it was in reference in playing to the crowd. I don't care how many people are at Sound Factory, it doesn't necessarily mean the DJ is in tune with the crowd. Exit is always packed with people, this doesn't mean the dj's are in sync with the crowd. PVD is always conscious of the crowd he's playing for and the atmosphere. I wasn't comparing the dj's or saying one was better than the other. They don't even play the same music for starters. All i pointed out was that PVD plays muzik according to how he tunes in with the crowd. Anyone at a PVD performance will notice this. As far as JP is concerned, if u like him fine. To my ears, he just plays the music. Not that this is good or bad but, it doesn't do it for me. I didn't say he sucked but, simply PVD plays to the crowd more. U obviously didn't read what i wrote in its entirety.

By the way, if he's not a top forty DJ than what is he? I don't think he's really an "underground" house dj. I mean he spins these long ass
whitney houston and paula cole remixes at Sound Factory. If thats not a top forty dj, i don't know what is. I mean the guy is known primarily for his remixes. Don't get me wrong, thats great. But, it sounds like u are trying to pass JP as someone cutting edge who
creates his own music. If he does create his own music, its new to me. I haven't heard any of his own work besides his remixing. I'd be interested in hearing it.

Well, my point wasn't really about PVD vs. JP. I was just simply disagreeing with you. Every DJ has his followers, including JP, but his job is a bit harder. All these big names come and spin at TWILO every two months. They have to please a loyal crowd that will come and listen to them for like 6-8 hours. JP tries to mix up his sets so that everyone will get a taste of what they like. It's bullshit that he only spins house. He spins techno, trance, house, some deep house.. everything. ABout the top 40 dj thing....I just have to say that its ridiculous. Don't you get that maybe he spins those whitney and cole mixes for hours because HE PRODUCED THEM. He made them top forty. He starts spinning the intro and everybody rushes to the dancefloor...thats pushing the crowd around?--(twilogodess)all these big hits...they were played in factory loooong before they became mainstream garbage. I'm not trying to argue with you, but you really havent been to factory past 6:00am lately...yes I heard the last two weeks were shit also...doesnt mean a thing.

--for his music: some of my favorites
JP-Paradise
Tsubassa dub
Karrisa Noel- Corrupt
Life in Mono

for some newer:
Luz Divina- Into you (not out yet)
Raquel- What you did to me

I think his producitons are waaay more advanced than anyone else's

Smoking ..umm..something

Maximus, No one in Europe even knows who JP is. He's not a World Class Top DJ. Yea he plays his own remixes of cheesy KTU pop songs...I don't wanna hear that shit. It's garbage.

I don't have anything against the space, the club itself. It's the cheesy trashy crowd that I don't like. Put it to U this way, u need a lotta drugs to do afterhours at Factory. I've been to Twilo plenty of times sober & had a blast. Twilo= The Metropolitan Opera of Clubs.

JP payls trance ? I don't think so... Alice Deejay doesn't count (j/k). I've never heard JP spin trance. He is not a trance DJ. Paul Van Dyk is a trance DJ and has done much to advance the electronic dance movement. The love parade, his residency at Twilo, Gatecrasher, and For An Angel. Need i say more. As far as trance is concerned, JP has done jack. Maybe JP plays more overall muzik, but as far as i'm concerned, he's local. The dj's at twilo take u on a 6-8 hour journey. The entire 6-8 hours is good fun. I can't wait till 6am for JP to get his act together. I have to agree with Twilo goddess on the atmosphere on the club as well. I hate to make generalizations because i'm sure Twilo is guilty as well, but its like Versace on steroids. The scene is more of a social one. For hooking up and having a good time. Twilo IS all about the muzik. I've never seen Guys ogling girls at Twilo and I've seen plenty of that at Sound Factory. As far as producing goes, I think Jp's remixes are long and tedious. Then again it's not a trance. PVD"s remixes and work is far better and groundbreaking. For An Angel is pratically THE trance anthem. I think Mizzuno also pointed out, JP has publicly said her hates playing trance. I'm not arguing the merits of JP as a dj, but u certainly cannot do it on a trance site. He doesn't really play trance at all.
