The most annoying key on the keyboard After some research, I can present a solution to the problem

Add this to the registry (run: regedit) to get rid of it:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3A,00,00,00,00,00

You will probably have to restart Windows as well. If you want to get the functionality back, simply remove the info you just added.

Just remove the key......or wedge a bit of cardboard under it to stop it compressing if you accidently touch it.

Or......don't touch it (radical idea I know).

umm, or you could just press "caps lock" on the keyboard each time

and as long as people are gonna be adding code to their registries, why don't you guys download a copy of a trojan as well?

no, seriously, at least i think it's very annoying when i want to press 'a', and i accidently press 'caps lock' and continue to write without noticing...

For those that actually type lots this is a useful hack.

I cannot measure how many hours I have spend deleteing what I have already typed as it is in CAPS.

Ok do you have one for the annoying insert key also.

Caps is a legacy thing anyway from teh old typewriting days it serves on meaningful purpose today with WYSIWYG interfaces, etc.
Actually the best solution would be a double/triple tap for the caps lock key.

caps lock is a completely useful key, unless you're a compLETE MORON, IT'S FAIRLY OBVIOUS WHEN YOU HIT THE CAP LOCKS KEY (EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT LOOKING AT THE TEXT YOU ARE TYPING, THE KEY IS MUCH BIGGER, AND IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LOCATION). Just my 2 cents. If you manage to type a whole long thing in caps, MS word or any other decent text editor will detect it and repair it anyways (which happens every once in a while), including capitalization of the beginning of sentences (might not do proper names though, but in that case you just do 'switch case' and everything is fine :-) If caps lock was a "legacy" key it would simply be taken off the keyboard, ever try to type a sentence in caps without using the caps key, it is rather akward unless you are using stickyshift keys, which takes a lot of time to get used too...

Uh yah thats great SuperFarStucker but If you spend any time using a sun workstation that PC keyboards are just f*cked anyways.

Also the caps lock key can be corrected in a text editor quite easily.

but when codeing caps lock is the devil.

edit: I also seam to remember that with the extra microsoft keyboard drivers the was an option to ignore the caps lock key.
(not the ones that come with windows the ones you get with a microsoft keyboard)
