King Visuals in Clubs

Hi all I am from the VJ community I have been after big/busy clubbers forums for some time and wanted to pick your brains.

Right what are your opinions in teh visuals that you see in clubs/events?

Would anyone be discouraged from going to a club with them/has bad visuals? Or more importantly would you pay say an extra £x, etc to see them.

Have any impressed you? If so have you any idea who they are?

I want to get a clubbers preception of it all as I am baised to the arguement.

Please be honest and say if people like me should give up and get a proper job.

Rovastar

Yes, i LOVE visuals. they totally enhance a party, and make it more enjoyable to be there.

I would leave a party if it had crappy visuals. not so much, because i would mind if it didn't look good in there, but, just because the "vibe" is not usually as good without some visuals.

I go to a party to escape the mundanity of life. When there are lasers and lights bouncing everywhere it makes it much easier to forget where i am and get lost in the music. Also, everyone else starts to feel that way, and you get a real otherwordly feeling in the room.

I would also pay MORE to go to a party to see good visuals. I am a real fan of those things, some of them are so beautiful. I don't care much for the balls of turning lights, strobe lights, fake fire displays etc.

I LOVE those big lasers that draw shit on the walls.

and even better, is the projectors that can be hooked up to a computer, with changing patterns synced to the beat. like the winamp plugins geiss, AVS etc.

those are amazing, and they totally make a party better.

keep doing what you are doing buddy, your work is not unappreciated.

You need several things:

A good DJ

Strobes

Good layout

Good decore

A bit of fog

Lasers

Lights

Unique visuals whatever they may be

and HOT dancing chickies in skimpy clothes

I agree with most of that, except the fog. I hate that shit, it gets up my nose and annoys me. I will walk off the dancefloor immediatlely no matter how good the party is, if they start flooding the place with fog.

However, it looks really cool in lasers, so maybe a LITTLE is ok i guess for that purpose.

and one more thing, about the hot chickies.. well, i'm sure some would disagree, but i don't think that adds much to the party.. I am there for the music, not to ogle girls.

then again, i have a bombshell girlfriend, so..

nyah, na nah na nah, nyah!

I gotta agree, a little fog is ok. But when you can't find your way around that's bad.

As for the chickies: I have a cute f*ckbuddy and I still ogle girls. It's great to be listening to great music while dancing with hot chickies. It just adds something...a raging hard-on. Hee Hee Hee

Fog plays havok with our projectors too!

I am from the real-time computer generated visualization side of things.

Refreshing to here your point of view JohnSmith we need more people like you out there.

Obviously no swirl visual stuff can beat beat some fine lady dancing with you.

ANyone elses viewpoint?

Oh and the AVIT International VJ festival is in Leeds this year probably the biggest collection of VJ's in one place at one time ever.

I think VJ’s can and definitely will play a much bigger role in clubbing as a whole in the future. Visuals are important you can’t deny it. However, I feel that the VJ must have complete and total control of every light and visual aspect on offer otherwise it wouldn’t be worth all the hassle. Still the day when VJ’s are headlining along with DJ’s will be an important and good one. It would be great to get DJ’s who play with VJ partners...much like how we get 2 DJ’s who play together today, Dumonde etc. That way each pair would have their own distinctive sound and sight too.

i totally agree on how visuals can enhance a party.

my only disappointment is when clubs use TERRIBLE vis fx that look like theyve come out of Windows Media Player. Milkdrop for winamp beats most vis displays hands down.

obviously there is a draw to the vj display as well - since its a bit more customized and not as set in stone...alt often its not linked to the waveform necessarily - which hurts the visual sometimes.

i love a videoscreen, but to be honest i stare at them enought already, so when i go to a club its interior design, as well as lights that add to the atmosphere. some places have barely any lights, while others have gigantic displays...and with the colored lights/strobe/laser/screen working together you can build atmosphere - you cant really get away with one one|
