Perth - Renaissance
Woahhhhhhh
I got there at 12:30
Wandered around a bit
Infusion came on at 1 and had to stop for 15 minutes due to some equipment problems. At the start they werent doing too badly but they sort of lost it in the middle and slightly picked up again (Running up that hill sounds very nice live). Overall i was a bit dissapointed after everyone was raving about them after sci fi in perth.
But then James Zabiela stepped up. From his first scratch effort on the cdj1000 the club was in awe. This man has insane skills. At the start he primarily played breaks with a bit of 4/4 thrown in, then about half way though it was 4/4 for the rest of the time mostly. He started off a bit slow (the first 3-4 tracks after the scratching were not good follow ups to infusion imo) then he got the show on the road. So much so that i didnt leave zabiela once to go see phil k.
When you go see zabiela just watch him dj for a bit, its amazing how fast he can move. The only complaint i had about zabiela besides the first few tracks was the way the sampled the fuck out of CM - Space Manouvres, we've all heard that sample "any crew? negative..." and other parts of that song, well for the first 2/3s of his set he threw them in every chance he could. It was alright at first but then got very repetitive. Other than that he was great.
Tracklist in no particular order for zabiela (and very limited due to my knowledge of such genres)
Size DDD - Nobody Listens To Techno (possibly a dub mix, possibly just doing some crazy stuff with the mixer, not sure)
Dave Gahan - Dirty Sticky Floors (Junkie XL Remix)
Sasha V Mike Koglin - The Silence/Wavy Gravy AKA Enjoy The Gravy (played this as his last track, went down well)
Attention Deficit - Use Only The Drugs (Zabielas Reason Mix)
His encore was a track ive heard before but cant put my finger on it, it has the sample "love is invisible" or something similar repeated a lot in a male voice.
Also much respect to zabiela for wearing a strongbad shirt!
IN SUMMARY
Infusion was so so, Zabiela was the shit.
Besides JooB and Jah did anyone else go to this?
