Im looking to buy 2 powered speakers for my new set up. This was i can be mobile and not have to worry about amps and all that nonsense. The speakers i have in mind now are the Samson EX20's. They bump 200 watts each, so i think thats more than suffecient. Anyways what do you guys feel are the best powered speakers, or any recomendations for speaker set up.

JohnSmith is right, Mackie SRM450's seem to be the way to go.

I have a pair and absolutely love them. They are rugged (I throw them in my truck a lot), easily moveable, and sound fantastic. They also have fly points so you can position them from the wall or ceiling. As with the JBL's, they are expensive, but look around and don't be afraid to give an offer. I got mine from Guitar Center and made out with a nice deal.

Mackies SRM series are all Monitor speakers, they aren't really good for PA use, though powerful enough to do the job if needed. If you want a good sounding PA system get separate speakers and amp. IF you want the best and money is no object get TURBOSOUND, but be ready to spend around $3750.00 EACH but something that's good sounding get something like Community XP500

at $398.95 each or
Community XLT42E

at $510.95 each
and get a Crest Audio or Carver amp.

I have used all sorts of set up.

I own the Mackies for 2 years with a sub.

Also I would recommend getting the aphex 204 for those concrete buildings.

I still have a back and I don't have a belly. PA and AMP friends are hitting the Chiropractor.

i'm sure sound quality woudn't be great, but it's super portable, i could take my decks down to the park and set them up for the afternoon! and it's about the price of ONE mackie 450, for amp/mixer, two speakers and mics.

Only thing that put me off is, there is no sub, or sub out even, and i love my bass.

Very true, I failed to mention this. Personally, I use them as both. When I play out, my 2 SRM450s do the job quite well. Add in a 1000 dollar sub and I am set for now. But as Tranz said, they are not PA speakers. If you plan on playing outdoors a lot, Mackies are gonna be pretty weak (at least my setup would be).

When I play a club, I don't have to worry about speakers, and when I use my Mackies to play out, it is indoors (usually) with a smaller crowd.

it is 250watts and bass output is pretty good.

I'm sure the bass is better on the 250 watt one, but without a sub i think it would sound very bass shy outside.

Are there any other systems similar to this? (mixer, amp, 2 speaker combo) under $1000US that would be worth looking into?

John, actually the Fender PD250 reaches pretty damn low, frequency response 30Hz-30KHz not bad for a portable PA system!!!
