There's good news and bad news. The good news is that you can stop those pop-ups from appearing. The bad news is that I personally only know how to do it in Windows XP:

1. Go to 'Start' > 'Settings' > 'Control Panel'
2. Double-click 'Administrative Tools'
3. Double-click 'Services'
4. Locate 'Messenger', right-click it and click 'Properties'
5. First stop the service by clicking the 'Stop' button
6. Now select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup Type' drop-down menu
7. Click 'Apply' followed by 'OK'

Note that the 'Messenger' service, rather confusingly, isn't actually related to Windows (or MSN) Messenger. So disabling this service won't affect its functionality. It'll just stop those annoying pop-ups!

So does this only stop those "net send" popups, or also the random porn spam messages on MSN/Windows Messenger? Like these:

Enjoy

Josee - *kisses*

Will it stop those also?

Like Mart said, the messenger service and MSN Messenger have nothing to do with each other, so no.

Messenger Services provides zero benefit that I've been able to find. It has nothing to do with Microsoft Instant Messenger, but I think they cleverly named it messenger services so people would be afraid to turn it off. If you're into XXX popups or the University of Phoenix online, I'd leave it on Just joking, of course.
