mixing hip hop

I know some of DJs here at TA mix hip hop so im wondering if they can give me tips on mixing hip hop. I mostly mix trance and I just bought a few hh records coz i want to mix some hip hop for my bday party this coming Sunday. But I found out mixing hip hop is so damn hard. Any tips for beginner? peace.

Im taking a stab that you do it much the same as trance, get em beatmatched and then mix em

But since hiphop has very short intro/outros, just mix for like 1 bar or 16 beats or whatever, and try to cut/add basslines fast.

From what i have heard from some friends it can sound really dope

i little while ago when i was in the old club space in miami i made my way into the hip hop room. the dj did the same thing almost every time....he mixed for about 4 beats then back spun the old song. i thought it sounded like crap but the people there didnt seem to mind. and hey, he worked at club space so he must be good...right?

Ok lets get one thing straight here. By mixing hip hop, I'm guessing you wanna learn how to mix tracks that you commonly hear at clubs and local radio aka Ja Rule and such.
Hip hop beats follow a broken, staggered 4/4 structure. Instead of hittin the beats, match the high claps after every other 2 beat. Differentiating between which one is lagging or not is MUCH easier because all you need is a single bar to figure out which one is ahead.

I'm gonna guess this is either really good sarcasm, or very bad ignorance. Get back to me on this so I don't offend you, or waste my own time.

scratch mixin lol

musicaddict got it right in that when your trying to beat match only concentrate on the snares. not all hip hop will have snares on 2 and 4 but 90% of it will. most hip-hop will be between 86-96bpm with a few exceptions like i know off the top of my head hot in herre and dance with me are both 100bpm which is about as fast as most hip hop will get. the slower hip hop 86 and below isnt the type of stuff you really want to be playing at a party either with of course a few exceptions

if you really want to get into mixing hip hop you gotta rock doubles of records. for example if im doing a party i got 3 tables going, table #1 is playing the song the crowd is dancing too, then on table #2 i beatmatch the instrumental to the song and let it play in the back ground maybe throwing a scratch here and there, then on table #3 i match the full song to its instrumental thats playing on table #2, when song #1 is getting ready to end i bring up the instrumental on table #2 then since you have two copies of the same song playing (on tables 2 and 3) your free to add a couple juggles, backspins, drop out vocals whatever you think sounds good.

if you want more detail on how to do it or any other questions about djing hiphop feel free to ask there are a million and 1 different things you can do
