You can get an ATI Radeon 9200 128MB for $168... definitely a good card

ask me this question a few years ago and i could have given you a good answer.
the nvidia's MX series are nonetooshabby cards at good prices. ATI also puts out some nice ones.

if you want really good info on questions like these, the best place to go would be www.sharkyforums.com (part of www.sharkyextreme.com) or better yet www.tomshardware.com

all those are crap, you can get a 9600np and flash/oveclcok it to 9600pro speed. its like 110-150. or you can get a 9500np and flash/soft mod it to a full blown 9700 pro or 9500pro depending on the cards configuration for around 120-150. best choice is one of them. the 9500 are drying up quick and harder to find everyday, 9600pr0 are much better than the 5600/5200

I know half life 2 hasn't come out yet. But what graphics card would be good for that?

Go to Pricewatch.com you can get way better graphics cards than that for less than $200, I got a GeForce 4 Mx 440 for 53 bucks.

supposedly half life 2 will be able to run on mid range systems (i'm thinking prolly require the same specs as UT2k3) my setup is an inspiron 8100 (not the best for playing games but hey, it's portable) radeon 7500 64 megs, 1 ghz processoe, with 256 megs SDram and i run Ut2k3 at 1024X768 with everything turned up to max. so u shouldnt need much to play it. if ur not into the extreme moding scene and u dont wanna spend much on a vid card check out the radeons. I believe they can push more polygons then those geforce's. i recomend a radeon 8500 64 megs (very cheap right now prolly like 120 at MOST) or 128 megs if u feel like ballin. but dont expect it to last long. u may have to upgrade in a year or two. o and if u do decide to get a geforce DO NOT get a MX they suck. Go for the Ti or the fx
