1200's Experts, need your help!

I recently bought a pair of 1200's off someone. The guy was a hiphop DJ. I picked up the pair for 300 bucks with flight cases (that doesnt happen that much). Anyways, one of the tables skips its pitch (the guy said they were perfectly fine). What i mean by this, is that it jumps, not in a random interval, but once every 3 seconds or about. I am wondering if I need to get a new motor for this table, or is it simply my pitch fader that needs to be replaced (i think the quartz timing is in that, I dont know too much about TT's yet). Also, both tables need the RCA cables replaced, b/c only one channel is working on them, somtimes it will come in stereo, but not always, how hard is that to do? Anyways, I hope someone can give me a little help, I would really appricate it, Id like to bring thease guys back to life.

Peace

im no expert, but with the pitch thing, it could either be the pitch itself or the needle.. is the needle you are using new or used?

you can replace the rca cables pretty easily - i did it myself and it works perfect!
about the pitch - take it to a repair center or something like this...
good luck!

describe the skipping in more detail...

the rca cables are esay you can get them either at www.djmart.com or www.turntablelab.com

basically you take out the outer shell and the inner, [lots of screws] then 3 to take out the outer tonearm shell and two to take out the cable holder. then its just two soldering spots.

if your stereo/mono problem is caused when you move the cables around then yeha thats your problem. if not it could be the tonearm...could be lots of things really...basically your main connections would be where the needle connects to the tonearm or where the tonearm connects to the base at a pc board...it looks like this

the spots on the bottom are for the tonearm and the three on top are for the rcas and grounding. im not sure what kind of rca cables are already on your tables but you might want to unscrew the actual rca terminal to check to see how securely the wires are connected to the rca terminal.

in short... you probably dont need a new cable if its intact its probably just a loose connection.

http://www.turntablelab.com/index1-eq.html
http://www.djmart.com/tecrepfacrca.html

both are reliable, turntablelab is more reliable beucase they are actually competant enough to get orders shipped. ive had some bad experineces with djmart but their customer service is good...they just dont seem to follow through so you have to ride their asses if you have any problems.

On the platter, those little round things that tell you how fast or slow you platter is going that are illumated by the stoble light (dont know what they are called), they skip, i see them actually jump around, usually about every 3 seconds. You cant really hear the sound skip that bad, but it makes beatmatching nearly impossible. It seems that the platter is speeding up a bit when it happens. Im hoping its only a pitch fader, those are only 35 bucks from 1200s.com, and i can put those in myself, or have my friend do it. Anyways, hope that clarified that jumping issue a bit.

Peace

That sounds like something is wrong with your motor. Try taking you platter off and with a compressed air gun, clean out the holes that the platter rests, as well as anything else you can get to. Lube up the underside of the spindle as well, see the thread I just posted about taking care of your equipment for more info.

Make sure the voltage is set to US voltage (110 I believe). When I bought my Techs (new), they were set to European voltage and acting similarly to what you are talking about. To check it, take the platter off, or turn it until you see a little black screw through one of the holes (should be near the on/off).

peace,
Kiragan

I found out what the problem was... I took my working 1200's pitch control out and put it in the broken 1200. It fixed it, no more skipping and everything is working fine. All I need to do now is buy another pitch control for the other 1200, anyone got a cheap place to buy one? 1200s.com sells the part i need for 35 bucks. Thanks for all your help everyone!

the only good experience from parts was www.turntablelab.com. 1200s.com took my money and djmart could never get my order right.
