Well, here goes nothing...
Arrived with friend Jess in tow at about 12:30am, and found that all arenas were far from packed. After TT, it was a pleasant surprise Sound (aside from deck problems during Signum's set) and lighting were all top notch. On to the tunes:
Checked out Slinky resident Dave Lea by sitting in the Vodafone stands, and was stunned by his mediocrity. Poor mixing, and cliched hard house/trance schlock. Stay at home next time, Dave!
Then toddled over to the Renaissance stage, where I was astounded by the best progressive set I've ever seen. Zabiela is where it's at: mind-blowing skills, bouncy fat-bassed prog with superb atmosphere and occasional outbursts of serene melody. Simply the best progressive set I've ever seen.
Dropped in on Lisa Lashes at one point during Zabiela's set, but it just didn't compare. I enjoyed her stuff more than I usually enjoy hard house, but in the end it was just too much, and not a patch on Renaissance. At this point, Vodafone Arena was comfortably full, to the point where EVERYONE who wanted to had space to dance.
Back to Zabiela to dance away most of the night, then into the main arena again to check out the boys from Signum. I expected a really fun trance set, nothing mind-blowing, and got exactly what I expected. Tracks included in their set that I have managed to recall :
Ferry Corsten - Indigo
Signum ft. Katana - 3rd Dimension
Solar Stone - Solarcoaster (Midway Remix)
Signum - Second Wave [record skipped during breakdown argh , but still OMFG I almost died]
Laura Turner - Soul Deep (Signum Remix) [Dear Lord, WHAT a tune. This was the highlight of my night; I love this track to bits]
Mr Sam vs Fred Baker - Forever Waiting (M.I.K.E Remix) [awwwww yeah]
DJ Cor Fijneman ft. Jan Johnston - Venus (DJ Tiesto Remix)
Signum - What Ya Got 4 Me
not sure:
Matanka - Lost in a Dream (Push Remix)
The Gift - Love Angel (M.I.K.E. Remix)
There was also a DJ Precision-type tune with a staggered bassline and massive breakdown in it that was played in the last 30 mins of their set -- help anyone? Killer track. In fact there were about 4 tracks that I couldn't ID and would dearly love to. It was banging (not hard) uplifting trance and rippling synths all over the place: just the way I like it. Mixing was nothing special, and at times I swear some of our TAs could have done better, but I expected that. A really sweet tracklist, and heaps of fun
Cheers to Wasted_Space, who was utterly rocking it to Zabiela and the Cat-man. Respect to the prog-TAs! Also to Stipsy, who I saw briefly during Signum's set Hope you can ID some tracks for me!
