Arrow ADVICE: Getting Table Off EBAY?

Looking for tables on ebay and ive found some decent deals but still a little untrusting.

Is it true that u have to pay taxes once tables come through Canadian Customs?

And what is the price to ship these tables more or less?

And have any TA's picked up a pair from ebay?

Thanx!

I have bought a turntable from ebay and I wasnt disappointed. The turntable was in beautiful mint condition, with a few scratches on the dust cover (no biggie). My only suggestion to you is dont be afraid to email the seller and ask questions, be involved, also make sure is rating is good. Check what people have to say about the seller. If the seller has a feedback rating below 90% dont even think about it. If the seller has had issues within the past week/month try to look elsewhere. Also make sure there are pictures to look at, if there arent any pictures, I would never trust the seller; therefore, never buy the item from them.

you will have to pay duties on bigger things like turntables to Canada. Prices vary so I can't tell you but remember that unless you can find a comparable deal around here (hard as it is), then the duty is not too much to worry about.
As for general ebaying, yea Vlad gives a nice basic rundown. Just choose what you want to pay basically, and generally never buy from users with 0 or around 1 feedback without emailing them and getting solid info (like pics and details) on the product. As well, I was nearly ripped off when an account had been hacked into and was selling me a product for a great deal. Said they needed the money fast, the day of. Watch out for this, most people/businesses can wait a little before they get their payment, the person wanted me to forward the money to an account via online money order, I couldn't do it and the very next day ebay warned me about the account had been compromised and proceed at your own risk. Remember, ebay isn't a completely lawless service they will check out users, so wait a couple of days before paying to make sure the sellers aren't con artists. Usually ebay companies/stores and users with big feedback "power sellers"/ "platinum member" whatever, they usually can be counted on. Just don't be too quick with payment because you have to be cautious with this much money.

BTW the con artist never did reply after the first email... asswipe wish i got their address... at least i disn't lose anything.
and... in general shipping costs for TTs are around 70-80 US.

Try to buy things in Canada. If its over $20 i think, and if they don't mark it as a gift, you'll have to pay taxes. Shipping for heavy items will add another 70-80 US like chavezhype said, plus if they ship by UPS, there'll be a brokerage fee, which could add 50 US or more...

There's always people in Canada willing to sell their used TT's cheap, it'll save alot on shipping/customs.

make sure you pay extra money for insurance and also to have the actual SHIPPER pack it for you so they will be responsible if there are any damages...becuase if its home packed or even packed by a parcel store, the shipper like..FCKING UPS will dismiss the claim for insurance on the basis that it wasnt packed correctly.

its just common sense, if youre spending hundreds-thousands of dollars on equipment that your ordering, its stupid not to insure you purchase with shipping insurance for a few bucks, otherwise if something happens, then youll get screwed because you skirmished out of a few bucks on shipping insurance.
