OUR MUSIC GOING MAINSTREAM:eek:

I wanted to get a response from you guys on an issue that I've been seeing all over the underground music community. It's been talked about on every board, forum, panel and list. It's this frightening thought about " underground music going maistream," or "top 40" or whatever you wanna call it... I hear people say.."damn, I love that song, but now they played it on the radio."

In my opinion, this is a bunch of bullshit. What is underground music? It's music that doesn NOT appeal to the masses and is only listened to and followed by a select group of ravers, party -goers etc.etc. When a song is played on the radio, it means that thousands of people are requesting to hear it...I mean don't we want to see Paul Van Dyke videos on MTV rather than fucken Blink 182 eventually??? I don't understand this notion of why underground music followers would want to keep this thing "underground." I wanna turn on the radio, and hear Timo Maas, PVD, Oakenfold, Jonathan Peters mixing beats...and not only from 2-2:30 AM but during prime-time hours. I think to get our culture more understood by the masses, we shouldn't discriminate against underground going mainstream...

f*ckin rights man, I'd love to have better access to 'rave' music, videos, radio etc. and I too hear lots of people complain about 'our' music going mainstream. I agree with you and I agree with them too. Lot's of people take pride in belonging to a non-mainstream culture because that is how they express their individuality. I, myself sometimes feel a pang of jealousy when a great trance song gets on the radio (Fragma - Toca Me -> Toca's Miracle) and gets over-played the hell out of. It feels like something has been taken away from me - and something has: a piece of my individuality. I can no longer say "I love this song!" and be different, because now everyone loves this song! But I resist the urge to say "I've had this track since it came out a year ago!" and I just let the people enjoy the music because that's what it's all about

Well.....

Underground people never turn on the radio stations, cause is NOT underground, so if anything, they wont find out about, and wont be affected if is overplayed since radios stations to them is EVIL
