All Maydays have taken place at the 30th of April (The May Day) since 1992. In the early days Mayday was held twice a year.

The first Mayday was called that way because they wanted to save a radiostation (S.o.s, help, Mayday...)

May 1th is Labourday in Germany (people free from work)

is mayday the oldest still kicking large trance/techno event?

It wouldn't be the biggest but it would be near the biggest.
